I dont really mind random tells, some of my best eq-friendships started out with random tells.

What i find amazingly stupid however is what happened to me last week:

    The Scene(tm):

PoK, near the PoT stone, i'm standing around chatting with some friends.
Some lvl 61(!) warior runs up to me.
    Hail, Twofury
followed by: SoW plz ! (yes with a ! )

I mean: I'm an iksar monk, with a monkly weapon, and Sensei in front of my name.

It's worse on my cleric though I twobox on occasion and i seem to be getting about 10 tells every bleeding hour for rezzes/buffs/etc

being the mean me: i always tell em: /r sure, drag/come to me and i'll res/buff you (i usually box in either PoV, PoIfactory or Seb when i'm feeling nostalgic.

After reading thru these I'm starting to feel a bit guilty about some of the /tells i've sent when I was needing to get a "summon corpse" for my brothers warrior (pre-Shadowrest). I think I sent 15 /tells to people in either the POK or Bazaar hoping to get someone available to do the summon. thankfully I did find one kind soul.

To add to the list of annoying /tells hmm.. would have to be peeps asking me for KEI. guess they assume any chanty over 50 can cast it (lvl 53 chantie atm). as soon as I drop /role I start getting /tells /ooc or people talking in /say asking for KEI. needless to say i switch back to role real quick then do an illusion of a non-enchanty race just to hide.

When I finally had the plat together to buy my first bear-form spell, I made the critical error of casting it on myself near a stone in the PoK. Literally within seconds, I got a /tell buff me. Not "hi, could you spare a buff" or even "Could I please get a SoW?" Just "buff me."

I cast a Charisma buff on the goob out of spite.

That reminds me of an experience my husband's enchanter had a while back.

A rude monk marched up to him and demanded, "Buff me!"

So he proceeded to bestow every buff he had on the monk...that a caster would love. You know, C1, insight, etc, etc...

The stupid monk didn't even realize he'd been had until about 10 minutes later when he started bitching in OOC. /giggle

Slightly to the reverse of most people's experience, I was standing around in pok, and got fed up with the idiots shouting "virt??!?!???" or "ne1 casting V for pp????" and so on (I would pay good money to be able to stab those people in the face over the internet btw), and I simply shouted "Virtue Sucks." (which it does, I'll take my 8 mana regen thanks), and promptly got hostile tells in extremely broken english from an irate cleric to the effect of "u dont know what ur talking about" [sic].

I must not get many buff requests because people know I'll just try to kill them verbally.

(I would pay good money to be able to stab those people in the face over the internet btw)
Care to borrow my Coin-Operated Web-Capable Slap-O-Matic™? It's an upgrade of last year's phone-line-only version. Fifty cents a smack and well worth it.

That said...I don't mind rez, buff, or whatever requests; even folks asking for things I can't do, well, they're a wee bit confused, and I'll gladly give them Shield of Words. What bugs me is this.

Importunate_Person: (in LFay) Hey can you rez me plz?
Me: (Group Temp, spell haste, refresh BAOTR, swap armor) I'd love to, but I'm on adventure and I don't think my group wants to wait. But we'll be out in about an hour, and I'd be glad to then.
Importunate_Person: Can you rez me now? It won't take long.
Me: Sorry, no. (Look, sugarplum, rez is over 20% of my mana, it's not the cast time, it's the MED time I'm worried about.)
              Importunate_Person: Plzzzzzz?
Me: No. I cannot be more clear. No.
              Importunate_Person: Why not?
              /ignore

Honestly. All you're doing is annoying me. Don't think I won't remember who you are, don't think I'm not writing your name down (because, frankly, otherwise I wouldn't remember who you are) and you will NEVER get a group with me, EVER. I'm not real big on grudges, but someone who can't listen to the word "no" isn't likely to do real well on "%T is rooted--BACK AWAY from the %T please" or "EVAC! EVAC NOW!" or "Incoming %T...get it off me before it messes up my hair" or any other number of things.

I see a difference between looking for a corpse summon and demanding buffs and/or items from total strangers. One usually means you're desperate to get your body back from a place you can't get to, the other means you're a demanding prick. I don't mean the "sow please?" tells, those I'm used to, I mean the 'Buff me' demands that are inevitably followed by colorful language if not met.

If I see someone of lower level who's looking for help regarding a CR I usually try to help out, not being able to get a buff before you go out is one thing, having to wait a week naked before you can play that character some more (and possibly even being unaware of that option) is a more pressing matter. And I will admit that I'm a sucker for anyone who dies in Sol A, sol B, upper and lower guk or "somewhere in Runnyeye" because I like seeing that there's still appropriately leveled people fighting in those areas. Those guys get the full treatment of rez, buffs and basic tour of where the zonein is and what to look out for.

As for enchanters and buff requests... all I can say is thank god for skeletal illusions and a bio text in my description that includes "dark rituals". Necros seem to have this reputation for being unfriendly uncaring SOBs, disguising my chanter as a necro is a godsend. If only there were some way to make my pet appear as a spectre.

Well, my worst 2 sow stories:
My level 18 rogue, in full Ravenscale (sometimes in february 2001, just after velious release, when Ravenscale = uber ) dual wielding 2 huge spikes (cant remember which weapons, but the giant spear look), not anon, and swaying form side to side due to being dead drunk after my latest experiments in brewing.
Some gnome spend 5 min asking me for sow, and appearantly being wood elf = druid, no matter how the look, so he keep asking me, and dont get that my garbled drunk reply might mean im drunk (didnt know about talking in emotes back then). After 5 min he insulted me and headed out.

But my personal favorite. My troll warrior, and my friends troll shaman beating up giants in GD for XP. Some guy come running, and start begging my friends wolf pet for sow. We let him beg Kebaner a few min before my friend gave him shammy sow . Worst part of this was that is was just after the changes in the graphic engine they made before luclin release, so the wolf pet was transparant, and he still didnt get it

Your shammy friend should have given him Scale of Wolf....a bit faster than Sow, but as soon as you are hit or attack something or cast a spell, it drops off

Itek: well, a little... I'm trying to CR but my /corpse isn't working for me or my partner, and standing on the corpse it won't let me loot it... but if you need KEI or something I am at the SSeru zoneline in Dawnshroud

Random_Druid: Oh, I'm being silly. Asking enchanter for help with a rezz in Cobalt Scar. Good luck with the corpse.

I never got tells for kei until I was 54. Then they start happening at the most... random... of times.

The first was on a ... it wasn't hedge raid, so it might have been the first carprin i did. someone in raid who was apparently too late for the MGBed voq sent me a tell, right soon after the raid started moving, and asked for kei. I just had to pause. He had to open the raid tool and look for the word "enchanter", then type out my name to send me a tell. Did he really not notice my level? Or maybe he was like this next person.

Sitting in bazaar, had been here for a good while, and I get this tell... "Can you cast kei?" I'm equal parts miffed and amused, so I /who all the person. They're a mid-50s druid... in nexus. So I can only assume they got my name by /who all enchanter.
I replied, "I'm 56. kei is a lvl 60 spell. you're welcome to c2 if you want to come track me into the baz."
A tiny pause, and she was like, "oh ok, sorry, didn't know."
                              *minor collapse*
Tinkbang tells serverwide.eqtraders:4, 'Have educated another 50+ noob that kei is indeed a level 60 spell. My work for today is done. Someone pay me.'

Ohh ohh. I'm in the bazaar on a different day, just sitting and browsing via /baz, and I get a tell: "can u cast c1 on me, i'm right behind u."
So I'm amiable enough to the cause, and begin moving my mouse through the lag to go mem the spell. I had just memmed the spell when i get another tell. "plz?"
reply: "Sure hon, hold on, I just have to mem it."
I stand up, turn around, target the chick, and cast it. right as it landed, I got this: "plz i'm in a hurry i really have to go can u just give me c1??"
Badgering! As tho her time were sooo important! If I had gotten that tell a half second sooner, i'd have ducked out of the cast. Instead, all I got was "thx" and "Whatever has faded away." (gate.)

                              grrrrr and a *facepalm*

oh, this isn't about tells, but somehow this got me thinking about it...
Rogue in my guild sends me a tell about going to Nadox. Iroke spent levels in Nadox, eventually learning to charm teh piggies.... many fond memories of Nadox. So I go.
Pally, Cleric, Wizard, Enchanter, Rogue. We form up at lava entrance, and I whip out my spiffy new spell of group c2 (knowing it won't land on me, I had an MGBed voq).
                              Begin to cast.
                              /g c2 won't be timed.
                              Your spell had been resisted.

                              /g or... nevermind then ^_^

Who was mentioning the other day that no one goes anywhere to xp without so very much higher buffs? "omg no kei i can't leave pok!"
                              heh. quite amusing.
