There's been a few discussions on pricing policies about specific items so I thought we could cover the real discussion of pricing in it's own thread so that the items in question don't drag down the debate.
Types of seller that I've observed -
1) Mr Walmart - sells for way less than what you can realistically get for the item with a bit of patience - will make a boat load of plat off of selling in quantity and isn't phased in the least bit when the value of the final item is now less than the going rate for the raw materials - two of these guys having a price war is always the death nell for a given item.
2) Ms Selfworth - the opposite of Mr Walmart - feels that she's earn the right to charge what she wants for the items she's made - she's the one that you're laughing at because she's charging three to five times more than anyone else.
3) Slash and Burn - this person is skilling up on an item and has descided to dump all of his skill-ups onto the market at only slightly higher than cost. You know that this person is skilling up because he's got 10 times more of the item than anyone else and is selling at a price that makes you think he made a typo.
4) Balanced skiller - this person is also skilling up on an item but is wise enough to only put a few on his character at any given point and is keeping the price of the item somewhat sane, or, is destroying most of his skill ups and simply maintaining a normal inv at market value.
5) Mr Five Percent - this person doesn't have the skill to make the item consistantly, but has the resources to get lucky once in a while - sometimes they dump under market price for the quick plat, sometimes they stay at market price for the good plat.
6) Robin Hood - this person has descided that they will make an item more affordable for everyone so are often confused for a #1 or #3 (these two will sometimes pretend to be Robin Hood in the hope of justifying thier actions to those who object) - just when you thought they were finally done dumping in your market so that you could actually pay for your skill ups, a day later thier mule is back with an obscene number of the item selling for just over cost.
7) No waves - looks at what everyone else is charging and prices with the average or bulk of the pack figuring that it's a fair price.
8) Slightly under - undercuts the best price by a few plat or 10% to garantee the sale, but staying as close as possible to lowest price so as not to shred the market.
9) Slightly over - figures that once everyone elses stuff is sold they'll have to buy from you so you may as well make a few plat more for your time.
10) Market be ****ed - you've got some kind of formula or technique for pricing that you stick with no matter where it puts you in the market - high, low or even.
11) Screw-it-I've-given-up - this person has given up on trying to make plat off of the final product and has joined the legions of farmers cleaning up on selling raw materials.

Ngreth Thergn
I'm pretty much sticking to selling my wares on special holidays or times when I have an overflow of stock, I've burned myself out quite well the last few months
But it's fun selling baked/brewed goods during the holidays
