The market for smithed armor has gone all to hell in the last month or so on my server.
There's a new smith on my server (250 or close to it). He gained his skill on Stormhammer, no doubt using shadowscream and having a GM reset the war as needed. Now he's on my server, slashing the cost of cultural armor. Blue diamond armor is 4k per sheet now and still dropping, even though he has no competition left. It's ruined the market.
This smith lets his roommate do all the auctioning, keeping his name secret. The person selling it has never spent any time gaining skill, and thus doesn't consider it valuable.
Other armor prices have dropped rapidly in the last month too. I've seen engraved royal velium between 1k (boots/bracers) and 2k (BP). Just the velium hound fur alone is often priced at 1k each (and sometimes less). I sold BPs every few days at 10k each a couple months ago. I no longer make it. I actually bought some for one of my characters, rather than make it myself.
The other day someone was auctioning WTB blessed full mithril boots. I can't (or won't) match the new prices, and other smiths have stopped selling the armor too. I had to explain to this person why the boots are no longer available, and he'd have to wait a few days until the new guy was available to make him some. That's sad.
