Okay, so I decide early on, I'd really really like a trophy for Xixsu, my baker. This occurs to me for several reasons:
1) It's a great status symbol. It really does prove your dedication toyour craft.
2) It's a fantastic range slot item for a monk. Weighs 0.1, 10 Str, Wis, and Wis, 50 Cha, and the skill mod (bye-bye geerlok)
3) That aforementioned 50 Charisma brings her Cha score up to a pretty little 105, allowing me to ditch both opal encrusted steins and never have to switch gear to buy and sell.
4) Remember where I said she's a monk? Summoned 100% reduction bags, baby!
5) Even BETTER for a monk: permanent 100% weight reducing bag!
So, having decided this, I decide 226 is a good place to start working on it. That's 238 with geerlok, and it'd be a great kick-off to Misty Thicket Picnics. So, here's a timeline of my trophy attempts.
Skill 226: I just hit, well, 226. I have an artisan seal in the bank. I have a spare dairy spoon in the bank. But I decide to use the dairy spoon that took me through Halas pies, for luck. I, of course, fail (or this would be the end of my tale).
Skill 234: I now have enough money for another run at a trophy. Get together all the materials (thanks, Meek, for having Purified Mana vials on at all times =D), and set off to make the artisan seal. The seal dies *in the kiln*. This bums me out for all of 10 seconds, and I resolve to work even harder and get my dang trophy.
Skill 240: I have enough plat now for a third try. I get together allt he materials, use my druid (who has pottery 192, but the aforementioned srewy luck with the kiln) to port her play partner, my SO's Enchanter (JC skill 202), to Great Divide. We run into Thurg. She fails mounting a diamond. Okay, so I go back to the bazaar, and get 700 pp off the trader mule, buy another diamond, and transport it all to Thurg again. Mounted diamond achieved, artisan seal achieved, seal fired, I port my partner back up to the Nexus and proceed to switch characters. From there, she sees "Xixsu has fashioned a Grandmaster's Baking Spoon"
Three tries (well, two and a half, truth be told), and Xixsu has her trophy. Total cost: about 12k. 12k for what will give me chills for weeks, I'm sure. Yeah, that's worth it =)

I agree despite all the money wasted down the drain on failed attempts I love my trophy.
