HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.
yeah, got pwned by the CdS last night. It really wouldn't have bothered me so much (been so angry in the past four months that I'm running out of energy) if not for one thing.
I ordered a new processor on Monday at 4pm pacific. The company shipped it out an hour later. It was installed in my computer 48 hours after I placed the order. /hug mwave.com, they are teh rule. It's an AMD Athalon 2200+, up from an 1100+, and is the fastest proc my mobo can handle (i reeeeally don't want to think about having to replace an entire mobo, /wince).
When I hooked everything back up and turned the comp on... no internet.
no eq.
no testing of the new proc.
i would have gotten angry, but there's that whole 'out of emotion' thing.
As it turned out, the sign in page came back up somewhere between 1130 and 1150, right before i went to sleep. So I logged Tinkbang in.
I went from server select to charselect in FOUR SECONDS.
o_0
i still can't beleive it. i'm having to resist the urge to log in and out a lot, just to watch how fast it goes.
2bxing-1comp lag is about the same as before. oh well. as long as it doesn't get worse....
Last April, when i first got this comp, i could turn all options up high and i had NO LAG WHATSOEVER. since then, it has gotten unbelievably miserable. I can only hope and pray that this proposed change to directx9.0b will fix stuff like laggy mouse. /cross fingers.
kiztent is a riot ^_^ thanks. i needed a laugh. ^_^

lesson learned when installing Windows on a new, unformatted HD: Try every single option regarding scsi drivers. even if one option is very similar to another. TRY IT. and don't boot from CD again if you've already finished that step.
edit. that's semi incorrect. for some reason, it wasn't the whole of campus service that went down, just the log in page. if i hadn't shut down, i would have stayed connected and gotten to ldon with kiz. and then there would have been no problem.
but i still love my processor ^_^
it's really really lovely when problems occur at 5:10pm.Last edited by Sanna; 02-05-2004, 10:42 AM.

Defragged all three drive sections on Sunday (feb 1). they are each only half full and the tool recommended that i did NOT need to defrag, but I did so anyway. No help.
I have 512 meg memory, 64 meg video card (gforce, i think 2? it's not written down and my memory sucks), USB mouse/keyboard connections (but lag is not reduced using a ps2 adapter). Directx 9.0b was installed last fall sometime, right after it came out. It helped mouse lag a bit, until a mid december patch, when it got waaaaaay worse again. I cried, i refused to do tradeskills on my own computer. I also, yesterday, installed 'RivaTuner' and did some steps that were supposed to cut down on mouse lage. Helped video lag (when I stop pushing the Right Arrow key, i immediately stop turning right), but no help with mouse lag. What else do i get asked..... gah, i can't remember.
the latest scheme is to uninstall EQ and reinstall (and repatch, o_0), and see if that helps. I think I will try that tomorrow while I go to class. Can't hurt, might help. Gotta back up all my ini's and maps and skins and all that. ^_^

Things to try:
Turn off your antivirus while in EQ, and make sure your email program isn’t running.
Delete all .TXC files and let them be rebuilt (if you have texture caching on).
Turn off sound within EQ, and totally disable it for EQ (which requires editing a file, I don’t remember specifics but I’ll dig around and edit this later). -- This is the one that ‘fixed’ it for me, tried because my framerate/mouse lag got way worse when near water or in noisy zones such as shadowhaven.
Reboot often. (I get worse the more I enter/leave EQ and the more I zone).

no antivirus program (i have a software firewall), only web-based email. didn't use texture caching until, um... monday. so that wasn't it.
trying the no-sound thing...
heh, wow... decent help on mouse lag when single boxing in full screen. That's a very odd thing to be causing mouselag. I'll see how well it works when hard core 2bxing-windowed this weekend.
ooh, and shutting off sound no longer blocks the mp3 player! and that was the only real reason i had left it on!
/hugs to Serenya!

Up that memory! It's not very expensive, and I noticed real preformance gains at 768MB and 1GB...Originally posted by Sanna
. . . I have 512 meg memory, 64 meg video card . . .
I upped my memory to 1GB and got a new video card (GeForce FX5600 Ultra 128MB) and the only place I lag is PoK. I've even taken up leveling in Jaggedpine where before I could barely move around to buy things there

I just have trouble finding the stuff. The only description I have of the appropriate memory for my board is DDR 133/266 and/or DDR 100/200, with the 133 being much preferred. Other than the place I bought both the motherboard & memory from (which isn't the best on prices, I've come to find out, and has some frustrating product quality issues (some there fault, some not)), I've almost *never* seen DDR 133/266 for sale, and when I do, they're small chips (usually 128mb, rarely 256mb). I've been wanting to buy a 512 stick to add in to get up to 1 gig of memory, but I just haven't been able to find the blasted thing (in a brick&mortar store - ya, I'm old fashioned at times) anywhere to buy it.Originally posted by Kentarre

Here's the trick, Dunthor. You can buy faster memory and it will work in your PC. When a PC says it requires DDR266 or DDR200 RAM, it means it needs memory that can operate at that speed. When you buy a DDR266 memory chip, it means it can operate at that speed or slower. So in general, you can safely buy DDR333 or DDR400 RAM and install it in your PC. Although the memory chips are capable of running faster, they'll work perfectly well at the slower speed of your PC.Sir KyrosKrane Sylvanblade
