  • Thanks for the warning

How sweet it was of Sony to give us that 3 hour warning on the servers coming down, along with the half hour, 15 minute, 5 minute, and the "servers are coming down NOW" warning. (I'm being sarcastic.)

Byebye, 100 leather paddings in no rent bags. -sigh-

If no warning was given and you lose the bags, /petition.

If the padding is not returned, ask for a valid explanation and take it up with CS. No Rent are a risk, but not one you can't avoid.

Well, after the time I lost my jboots in a no rent bag (returned after 8 hrs), and the time I lost all 5 of my glowing silk pieces plus my fourth shawl in a no rent bag (not returned, I actually redid the quest from 1 to 5 after petitioning over 5 days, having my petition escalated at least 3 times and then completely giving up on a GM) . . .

I probably have a flag on my account that says something to the effect of: "This character should never be allowed to cast the spell Gift of Xev again. Don't reimburse her! Ever!"

Seriously, when it comes to spending 2000pp (20pp per padding, 100 paddings in the bazaar) or camping a GM, I'll take spending 2000pp anytime. I'm just really very irritated that they couldn't do ONE systemwide broadcast to let everyone know that the servers were going down.

        Ouch.

I've learned a looooooooooooooooong time ago, once they say the servers are going down in (insert any number of minutes) I made it a priority to stop doing what I was doing and be prepared to be kicked off any second.

Things included, getting out of hostile areas, moving items out of a norent bag, quickly finishing with NoRent items, stop shopping etc..

But I've noticed that you need to take 15 minutes off their timer.

They say 30 minutes, it's really 15. They give the 15 minute warning, expect it to drop you any second.

Actually, I think that was the point. For those in game, there was no warning, just that moment of black and the words "You have been disconnected"

Correct. No warning whatsoever. I was running around in Oasis of Marr, looking for some Sand Giants to kill (none were up, though). I was standing near the Inn, and had just sent my Earth pet to kill a Drybones (revenge for the handful of times I had been killed by them when I was levelling by killing crocs in Oasis), and was moving my mouse to open my spellbook to memorize Gate so I could head back to Butcherblock and run to Felwithe to bank right when the server went down.

I logged back on a couple of hours ago to get my character out of Oasis, and was standing at the gypsy camp when I logged on.

I seem to recall that there was no warning the previous time I was on when the servers went down for a patch, either. (Fortunately, I was in Shadow Haven at the time)

I rarely petition in game anymore. Go to everquest.com and use the send an email to a GM thingy. Usually get replies in 2 days and they fix stuff over night.

I learned a long time ago to never, EVER do tradeskills or use No Rent bags on days when patches are scheduled. Fortunately, I learned this from reading other people's horror stories, not from personal experience.

The only times I ever got a quick response from a GM were:

About a week after I first started playing EQ (running a Human Necro, who I've long since deleted), my character died in Kithicor, and couldn't find my corpse - I used Locate Corpse, but it wasn't where the spell was pointing to. (Turned out the corpse was in the water, but was positioned weird - it was night when I died, so I didn't see exactly where I was when I died) The GM popped in, basically told me my corpse was there, but wouldn't tell me exactly where or how to retrieve it, so I had to get some help from another player.

Once when I was in Shadow Haven, I petitioned because a vendor (the meat vendor, to be precise) was out of place - someone must've attacked them accidentally and ran, because the vendor was standing near the building the Alchemy vendors and tree that leads to the BL\Ranger\Shaman\Druid guilds are in.
(It was actually a guide, not a GM, because they told me they had to get permission to move the vendor) I only talked to them in chat, but they did eventually move the vendor. (Found out later from a guild member, who watched them move the vendor)

                  Helpful hints for petitioning:

If it was stuff lost in a no-rent bag due to unannounced server crashes or patches, include the zone you were in, what was in the bag, and mention that if you had any warning that the zone/server was going to go down, you would have moved the stuff to a rentable container.

If you do lose stuff due to a turn in, include the zone it was in, the NPCs name, the date and time (and your timezone) of the turn in. You would be astonished at the number of folks who are incapable of remembering when they did the big turn in for their epic ("a couple days ago, in the evening I think") when something goes wrong. Write that down on some paper as well, in the event that something happens to your petition in the system (and you have to repetition). If you like to play EQ while drunk, I recommend doing turn ins only when sober and full of coffee. Think of the 6Ws that all journalists try to satisfy when they write an article: who, what, when, where, why and how. If a GM has to search logs, and they have a 1 hour window to look in, they are more likely to find information supporting your claim in the logs. If they have to look through 2 weeks of logs, I bet they will give up. Also, %T does not work in petitions.

Petitions in the queue system are deleted when the servers are brought down for patching. If you are offline when your petition is answered by a guide, it is likely that your petition will be deleted (putting complete and detailed information in it minimizes this chance). To see if your petition is still in the queue, use /viewpetition. If you need to change what is in your petition before a guide responds, you can delete it with /deletepetition.

There always seems to be an emergency patch or 2 on the days that a scheduled patch has taken place. If you are obsessed with your scores in LDoN adventures, take a day off. There is no possible way that a GM can add, change or delete LDoN wins, losses or adventure points. Nor can they add, change or delete PoP flags. Because of the typical emergency patch-for-the-patch, I would not recommend no-rent containers on the day of, and the day following scheduled patches.

This concludes today's test of the Early Rambling System. This is only a test, if this had been an actual Ramble, this post would have been much longer and less coherent.

That really sucked not having warning. (Ididnt think to check EQLive for updates, since they are done earlier in the week).

Was PLing my wifes monk in PC when bam - black screen, You have been disconnected- message pops up. To make a long story short, because there was no warning she was in the middle of the bandit camp at the time. Expected her to login to find a naked monk but nope, she was dressed. She lost half a level due to a rollback!

Ok, enough of my rant. Have fun, and stay safe

                      I play on test server.

Test can come down with little or no warning. At any time. For any reason. Or no reason.

If you every play on test for any length of time, you learn one thing REAL fast.

People who used no-rent bags are fools. They want to lose stuff. They invite strife and pain and loss into their lives.

                      Never. Ever. EVER... *** E V E R *** use no rent bags.

                      NEVER.

for vendors in towns, bind a level 1-9 toon/mule in the town, and then have then range attack the vendor in question, repeat as nessaxery til vendor is back in spot (Did this with my level 6 wizzie with same said meat vendor when I was doing halis pies)

So this is the 3rd time you've lost somthing in no rent bags? Tsk Tsk.

As far as the no warning thing on server shut down, I totally agree...I wonder if anyone is even awake at SoE central at 3am to put a message up? lol

Well, the first two times I camped out with the bags holding stuff. (Once on me, once in the bank.) I did learn my lesson, but there's nothing I can do if they randomly decide to bring the servers down.

Leather paddings stack, I'd not have 5 stacks of leather paddings in no rent bags.

No rent bags mean you WILL lose the items. ASSUME IT. ASSUME THE ITEMS IN THE BAG WILL BE LOST. THEY WILL BE LOST. REPEAT THAT, THEY WILL BE LOST. It might not only be because of SOE, it could happen due to your own ISP or computer. So just ASSUME ANYTHING IN A NO RENT BAG IS LOST.

Due to assuming that, I've never lost anything I wanted. The only stuff I've ever had in no rent bags was rusty/fine steel fodder or something. Thats only on a newer character on a server like Strom because someone was giving out summoned bags.

On my established server, I simply put everything in weight reducing bags, there are so many now which are so dang cheap.
I'm not talking Haversack or Tink, I'm talking the real cheap ones like rallic pack or evil eye bag.

Leather paddings are not even heavy, AND they stack. Boggles the mind. There is just no reason to have them in no rent bags.
I'd imagine your account is flagged.. I mean.. how many times does it take for you to learn that this is a bad idea ??? AHAHA. Why on earth would jboots go in a no rent bag either????
Get a couple light weight reducing bags for anything important, use no rent ones for fodder that you ASSUME YOU WILL LOSE.

Depending on the GM, he could say you are out of luck anyway. No -Rent bags are not to be trusted by definition, so its an assumed risk.

Once should have been more than enough. I'd really like to know why on earth you are putting things you want in them in the first place.
