Well you should care about it. Yantis and his ilk affect every person in the game.

But that being said it looks like SOE is going to be making changes on their message boards. Brenlo has dropped some hints about possible big changes there in the near future.

It looks like they may be adding some forums.

If SOE did give message forum space to the users, would that be good? They'd probably strictly moderate it unlike any moderation you've been subjected to.

The SWG boards are fairly good. The only posts that get removed are the totally useless flames or SOE is evil Rants. They are more prone to remove a thread rather than lock it if things get hairy.

I'd hope to see them run EQ boards like SWG ones.

There are some people who think the SOE boards are a conspiracy to keep people in the dark about its "evils" since only registered product users can access them but my question would be why would you want bozos wasting your bandwith with flames about your product?

I wholeheartedly disagree with this statement for one simple reason: Aandaie is more than welcome to care about it or not care about it as he sees fit. It's not for anyone else to tell him "you're wrong for feeling this way" just like it wouldn't be for him to tell anyone else that THEY were wrong for feeling the way they do.

I'd say its a bit less of a conspiracy, and a bit closer to fact, since when they closed the old General forums, there were two primary reasons officially cited if I remember correctly: 1) The excessive negativity was considered detramental to current players who had to sift through all those rubbish bumps, flames, and "Blue name post here plz now!" post to try and find information, or post information, and 2) It was very poor PR, that if someone came to try and find out about this "Everquest" thing the official source would be almost exclusively filled with negativity and hatred for the product.

They had some player mails to support the first part, and I saw posts agreeing with it on a number of forums at the time, so that wasn't just pure PR BS. But anyhow, given the fact that they previously closed their boards primarily to keep out the "evil"s, it doesn't seem excessively far fetched to think that's a least part of why the modern boards are how they are.

Just to show the light at the end of the tunnel, the necro board didn't end up being sponsored by Yantis/IGE.

It's currently having a tiny amazon.com banner and link which is a much more civilized solution. Credit to the admin.

I'm just glad that the Magician's Tower site is down, or it would probably have been assimilated by Yantis by now.

(The Magician's Tower's forum basically took in all the stuff that was on the site itself - there's just no graphics)

As for RPGExpert, which lists exploits....well, if anyone is foolish enough to use them, then they deserve to get caught. I've been to the site a few times to look up information on things (lists of the AA and post-50 class titles, a few quests) a couple of times, but generally stay away from it.

I go to EQInterface, which is owned by IGE, so seeing the banners and junk is no big deal to me. I may not like it, but I'm used to it.

Not owned. Sponsored. EQ Interface sells ads to them. Nothing more.
