  • I hate these shawls

    AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Needed to let that out as I have just failed the 6th shawl (not the first fail on the shawls).

Now I have to go and do battle with those flaming sirens ( I really do hate them )

Took me long enough to get the 2 hairs the first time

O well back to killing sirens

Don't feel too bad. At 177+ 5% tailoring I've failed the 6th shawl 3 times now. I refuse to spend the money to up another tradeskill to 200, especially when I'm already doing it on my cleric.

The siren hairs aren't too bad if you know where to hunt.

Goto the end of island were the Bulthorks hang out - dive into the water and swim around near the tip underwater - you'll come across three underwater pillars which are well spaced from each other - there is a siren on each one - they are far enough apart that you'll never get an add unless one totally bolts on you and my troll SK was soloing them with ease back at 52.

Guess it would be kind of mean to mention that at 167 I made the shawl on the first attempt..... and got a skill up to 168....

        THANK YOU RNG!!!

You think you had it good. When I did my shawl, I never failed on any of the combines the entire time except for two things. I failed on one combine of etched velium armor and one failure on the padding combine for the armor. All sub-combines through 8 shawls, never failed. All 7 final combines I never failed. I found the dorf the first try within 5 mins with help from a friend's pet. I have been truly blessed by RNG when it came to the shawl.

I am debating (internally) whether to start the shawl on a 3rd and 4th character. I wonder if I should get fletching up to like 199 before (I suspect) that the resale price on steelshafted arrows gets reduced to nothing. But yeah, I have had that love/hate relationship with the shawls, and the 8th shawl is the worth all the work in the end. If you don't think it is, or you don't think that you can get there; you can get there, you can do it, you probably just need a break for a while. Don't get frustrated and furious like I did, I got mad and blew about 30kpp for each of 2 chars getting tailoring up to 187/188. Now I have a character that can forage plant shoots, and survive the trip to nedarias, so maybe the next 2 characters will be a lot cheaper getting to 188 tailoring. Excuse me while I start singing and dancing the teapot song.
