Tiny Terror is not a buff. Grow and Shrink spells are all instantaneous, like DDs and heals. Instantaneous spells are not tgb or mgbable. Only "benifical" duration spells (ie leave a buff icon, even if only for 1 tick) are tgb/mgbable.

so what's the thing with the summonable 'mod rod'? granted, the ONLY way i've ever come across one was through an MGB type effect, but they're not a 'buff'. or does being an item, not an 'effect', change that rule-thing?

According to a mage friend of mine, the group T-Rod spell is AE by default. It has nothing to do with the MGB AA. Spell is level 57 I think.

Ixiola's friend is right. Both the mage "Mass Mystical Transvergence" (aka AE mod rod) and wizard "Teleport" (aka AE trans to bind) are literally Area Effect spells. They're not single target or group target or whatnot like most spells, they have an AE range just like an offensive point blank AE spell.
(plus, wizards don't even get MGB although mages do)

That's how they get around the "MGB/TGB requires duration" rule - by not using that mechanism at all.
