  • Signets quest a waste of time

After 5 months of tradeskilling diligently day after day...week after week I reached the tailoring portion of the Councilman's Signet quest(4 signets done already).
    And failed 4 times.

    2 Attempts were at 235+5%
    1 Attempt was at 241+5%
    1 Attempt was at 243+5%

    This is an outrage!!

I'm not angry because of the failures in so much as I'm furious that the sap is so mind numbingly RARE.

It took me a week+ of 5-6 hour pharmin sessions for 3 of these attempts. Thankfully I had access to a friends druid. I can't Imagine trying to get my guildmates to pharm this stuff with me on my warrior.

Don't bother with this quest if your guild has ANY shot at the plane of Time. It's just not worth it.

250+5% in all skills except tailoring(243+5%)

I am 0/2 so far and about to start farming for my 3rd attempt. I am pretty disgruntled too but the earring is like the shawl = a symbol of endurance, devotion and pride .

I could have replaced my shawl many times but nope, I never will. Silly, I know.

If you are doing the Grimmel quest, you are already elemental. Also, if you did Emp / VT there are some mighty tempting drops like the Shawl of Awakenings along the way.

I did the quest twice for my druid and currently working on 2 more for my bard. I guess I was real lucky with my druid since he had no failures at all when I did his, thats 2x everything.

Btw I am in a time guild and have been for a couple of months. Many in my guild are doing the quest for the third and fourth time instead of opting for PoT earrings. The resists are just to hard to pass up.

Saps are kinda rare, this is true but sure is fun farming them with friends. 1 druid + 1 bard + 4 wizards make the mobs go poof I guess I just see it more like an experience grind than farming for supplies. I have a stack of saps already saved just from doing these "burn" sessions.

I'm working on these too. So far I'm 1/2 on smithing, 1/1 on brewing, 1/1 on jewelcraft...the easy ones. Working on pottery now, and I've already got 3 saps banked that I found in the Bazaar for the tailoring one (didn't know you were hoarding them, Claver =P ). I don't think they're a waste considering the reward, and plan on doing the quest on two characters, probably twice for both, but some of the drops are too rare. Not like I could easily solo the saps as a Ranger either, and no one wants you in a fire group unless you're a wizard/druid, so I bought them at probably crazy prices. I'm more worried about getting sacred waters right now though...as soon as I drive my enchanter twink nuts making enchanted clay and various types of mana vials to drive another 20-30 points of pottery.

Frustrating yes, but I'm sticking with it for the same reason I did the shawls. I'm crazy

That Halfling is still giving out the quest? I distinctly remember throwing him down the elevator shaft upon completion of mine.

I disagree about the "worthlessness" of the Aid Grimel earrings. While the majority of the Time earrings are rated higher (total stats search on A-zams), whether you are a Time enabled guild currently or even going to be in 3 months, either you have to wait your turn to loot a better earring or 3 months + waiting your turn is a long time in EQ to go without what is possibly a better piece of gear for you.

                (darn fine run-on sentence /bow)

And for those who are crazy about tradeskills, it fits the bill.

I'm currently recruiting for a guild that's on the PoTime track - but it'll be a long time before I can loot anything decent, let alone for a specific slot. However, I probably can get my mits on some of the dropped tradeskill stuff from raids.

Regardless of this quest or not, I have always maintained that no one should do tradeskills at all unless they really enjoy it. You shouldn't do it to attain a piece of gear because the journey is so much of the enjoyment (pleasure in endurance, sharing the pain with a community who understands, satisfacation of completion and being recognized by those who know what it means).
