My BF wishes for me to take this moment to provide a couple pieces of information. Actually, he didn't say, 'tell them this', but they say that 'repetition is meant to send a message', so I'm sure he wants his wisdom passed on.
1. EQ as a MOG is not original. It is based off old text-based MUDs written by programmers working in their free time, most of whom have not gotten one red cent for their work. Since he brings this point or something similar up in every fourth conversation we have about EQ, it must be an important fact.
2. In the older versions of D+D muds, yes there were things approaching 'tradeskills' -- the example he gave were sorcerers who needed to make some kind of crystal catalyst (?) for their spells -- and you had to buy things from vendors in a town and combine them with things dropped from mobs, and the like. But you didn't sell them to vendors for money. In fact, to make any money at all, you HAD to leave town and risk your life and go kill monsters, and either get money from them directly (apparently all old skeletons carry at least a few copper tied to their bones somehow) or loot something off them and sell them to the vendors for money. The 'original' version of tradeskills were not done to make money, they were done to survive.
There. We have now all been ejumacated.
So, I'm not going to enter into speculation about what direction SOE is trying to take EQ. Obviously I as a player have no say in this. What bothers me is this:
Is it so wrong to tell us these things? No matter how often I read that Dev's Corner and the like over at the EQLive site, I never feel like I've received enough communication. In the long run, that's what gets under my skin so badly. They make these changes that affect me, but nothing I could ever do would affect them, even if I went to every EQ player's house IRL and got paper signiatures, they still wouldn't listen. Whether or not that is true, that is the feeling I get.
So... they 'nerf' prices, 'nerf' classes, do 'this', 'that', and 'the other thing', and add shared bank/plat while they're at it. Do they not tell us beforehand so we don't get our hopes up? So the macroing people don't go through an extra burst of macroing exploiting?
I guess, in the end.... If I am a pawn, if I don't matter, I wish they'd just tell me that too, and preferrably now, so I can stop trying and do my homework.
