  • Got Crazy

Well today I did something rather stupid and I admit it fully. I was looking around my bank and saw I had a jacinth, blue diamond, diamond, and black sapphire in there. I have been reading these boards for months now and I am a fairly skilled in making many items (thanks primarily to the shawl quest) but my true love is smithing. I love making armor. I love the clang of the hammer beating metal. I love the heat of the forge and the smell of burning hair. Not that I have mastered this ardous tradeskill. Indeed ethereal sheets are still beyond my skill. But I looked at these pretty gems, and I looked at the small mound of platinum I call my horde, and I got a crazy gleam in my eye. Why I could use these to make a grandmaster trophy!

So off I went and mounted the four gems after stopping at two of my least favorite merchants in Thurgadin. 8 bars of velium from my close friends cost me much of that horde. I looked at the diminished pile and caught my breath. Should I keep going? I might need this cash to buy more peridots and emeralds and cloudy potions in the near future. But the lure of the trophy drove me back to the Plane of Knowledge and my favorite (or well most often visited) merchant for 4 fine lovely rubies. A deal with a dark elf and a high elf later and I had my vial of purified mana (I wonder if it would restore my mana pool....).

So I find a small block of clay and wander over to the nearest pottery wheel. Unfired thingymabob noproblem. Sidestep to the kiln (I always wonder why the merchants never set up shop closer to these tools in Freeport) and now I have a fired thingymabob. (oh right Artisan's seal)

Now at this point I must admit I had some hesitance. My horde is now a meer 200pp. And I have heard horror stories about this aritsan's seal disappearing. But but... ah heck! Lets give it a fling! So over to the forge I go with my geerlok hammer, smithing hammer, and my very valuable Artisan's Seal (btw did you know a merchant will only offer you 9gp for this thing). Open the forge, get it nice and hot, put in the hammer, place the Seal on top, and WHAM WHAM bang bang ching ching CRUNCH. Uh oh. Dang broke it. Sigh. I knew better I really did. I miss the artisan's seal but I really miss my smithing hammer.

Oh and if you are wondering my smithing skill is 189 .

Ahh, welcome to the capricious lure of the Artisan's Seal... they suck you in, only to break your heart.

No, wait. That's dating. Excuse me.

They suck you in, only to break your bank.

Yeah, that's it. Better luck next time, man.

        /comfort.

When my Baking was about 215, my roommate scrapped together a Seal and forced me out of the room, not telling me what she was doing... and failed the Spoon, of course. When I got back and my roommate was 'wailing', I couldn't tell whether to thank her for the thought and comfort her on the (my? her?) loss, or try to gently chide her for trying a Trophy at 215....

My gosh that was a horridly long sentence.

many many many many many many many many many many many many /comforts. Better RNG chance next time. /hug
