  • Common courtesy during the Hollowshade War

It's NOT fun. I don't think any smiths truly enjoy slaughtering greens for hours on end because there are no other real skillup paths to 250 that don't involve either tons of money (sickles) or tons of time/money (cultural). I know I don't enjoy it.

In what I am hoping is a rare occurrence, it took me 2 hours roughly to get the sonic wolves to take over the southern shores. They must be scared of water or something but I can NEVER make them come south quickly. (If someone has a trick for this, please spill it!)

Then I get kicked while relogging a character (my Cleric was AEing them, my Ranger looting the results). My partner wandered AFK and missed the fact that the south was gonna get attacked. I get back in game and ask my partner why bears are up....his reply is along the lines of "DOH!".

Another 2 hours later (roughly) we get some wolves to come back down to the beach. Incidentally, this time taking over the beach was their last battle, and they now own the zone. YAY! No more oops-I-went-AFK takeovers! Farming paradise at last!

This goes great for an hour or so and then the zone emotes that Gharlick (sp?) died...and ????? we have grimlings on our wolf beach. My partner and I look at each other and go WTF? and then type /who, which reveals one anonymous person and one 62 Beastlord who weren't in the zone ten minutes ago.

When we address the problem in /ooc we are told by the Beastlord that no one was at the named area so the person assumed it was open. No apology either, even after we made him/her aware that they just wasted several hours of our time by not doing the courteous thing and asking if anyone was running the war. This person wasn't outright rude, but an apology is nice when you waste someone's time. We didn't have another 2 hours to wait tonight, so this person killed our farming for the night.

For the love of all that is holy (or, if you're an evil race, unholy...if you're agnostic, whatever) if you see a named mob up in the Vah Shir outpost, ASK if someone is running the war before you whack it. I lost hours of my time because someone was too ignorant/selfish/whatever to do a simple /w and see two level 65s in the zone, or do a simple /ooc Anyone mind if I kill the named wolf? Seriously, Hollowshade isn't a zone that high level characters sit in just for giggles, especially when it is somewhat widely known to be a farming zone.

Before anyone flames me back for not advising them, please keep in mind that we had had the zone to ourselves for at least 4 hours straight. Though we'd tap /w every half hour or so, we didn't pay much attention. We amicably worked out every meeting with fellow farmers/expers/whoever before this, but they all announced their presence, or at least ran by us so we knew they were there. This was the first person all day not to do that.

All day long my partner and I shared the zone and even helped several folks get their named kills. What did we do to earn this?

I'm not really angry at the person who did this, I'm angry at the situation. Give me another place to AE greenie sonic wolves that doesn't rely on a trigger and I'd be quite happy. Tenebrous and Katta don't work out for me, so I rely on Hollowshade, where I can get both items in the same trip.

To tell the truth, if I go back to Hollowshade and find that the beaches are covered with wolves, I'm spawning the grimlings whether someone is farming or not.

I don't want to hear any "common courtesy" about it when I do it either. Those grimlings that you don't think much of keeping despawned drop components for tradeskill-based quests in Shar Vahl. So a beastlord came and spawned them? That doesn't surprise me in the least; it's likely he came and looted the finger bones and other drops he needed to continue the progressive quests. You want him to apologize? I'm afraid the apology needs to go the other way.

The Shar Vahl quests listed on the Luclin Tradeskill Quests page will give you some idea of what you are disrupting. Of course that does not include non-tradeskill quests requiring drops from Hollowshade.

The blunt tone of your post aside, I have an issue with your reasoning.

Why should Person B be allowed to take somebodie's camp, just because they need the camp for a different reason than Person A, who has it?

If Person A is farming the Wolves, and is using those drops to further their own Quest for 250 smithing, what makes someone elses desire for the Vah-Shir cloak more valid?

I'm sorry, but one person is questing for 250 smithing, and the other is questing for a Loot Upgrade.

Neither gets moral priority, It's the age old question of first come, first serve.

And no, it doesnt matter that the Quest components don't drop elsewhere. Come back later if someone else has the camp.
