  • Exploiting Price Inflators and Ignorant Players

Great Golden Gods Guide to Exploiting Price Inflators and Ignorant Players for Platinum.

Welcome to the guide that will help you make plat from Ignorance and {undesireables}. I play on Fennin Ro, so this may or may not be true on other servers, but Im sure it is.

Lets start with Price Inflators. This is directly connected with the Bazaar. The most inflated commodity that I can see is Spider Silk. If you go to the Bazaar and check on the price of spider silk, you probly won't find any for less than 7pp per, and upwards of 20pp per. To the untrained mind, this means that 8pp is too low, so selling at 10pp per will pay off if I wait for a few hours. I've not tried this yet because I think its retarded, but I really don't think people actually pay this price. Plus, your going for a quick sell.

Do you see that guy with 1500 silk for 10pp per? This is the sap your going to rob. He thinks hes getting 10 per for his silk if he can buy out everyone else that undercuts his price. So you want him to target you. But first you have to bait the hook. What I mean by bait is your need to get like 8 stacks of silk, preferably 10. Pay 1pp or even up to 3pp per silk to newbies for that 10 silk they have amassed in their bank, or hunt spiders in East Karana and Upper Guk for silk. Once you have ammased your stacks, you are ready to hurt his bank.

Now the reason you want this many silks is this Nobody is going to buy 2 spider silk for 3pp per. Thats not a threat. Thats not even a good joke, because he knows that it won't divert customers.

What you are going to do is find him, and set up vendor right next to him, selling your numerous stacks for 8 per. See if he buys you out within an hour. Your shooting for robbery but he just might take it. If he does, you just got 1600 plat from him (If you had a full satchel), and more than made up for the overhead. If not, lower your price to 7 per. This hasn't failed me yet, but it eats off 200 plat from your haul. If your desperate, sell them at 5 or 6 per. Even passes by will buy you out at that point.

The reason your doing this is because he thinks, "If I buy his 200 silk at 8pp per, and re-sale them at 10 per, then I just made 400pp." Well Ill be ****ed if I see anyone buying for 10 per. I could be wrong, and some cash cows might actually pay that, but the point of this is to take advantage of a buttmonkey.

Next on our list is the ignorant. Check the price of bat wings ("Bat Wing" in the bazaar find menu). This is the best example of ignorance I can think of at the moment. You probly wont see bat wings for less than a plat.

Head to East Commons. In the third set of inns you will find Katha Firespinner, the gem merchant. She sells an infinite supply of bat wings for like 2sp 4cp per. Buy an odd number to look like you frmed them yourself and undercut the bazaar by more than half. Youll be amazed that people don't know that this merchant exists. This is a good method for newbies to make some cash, especially if someone ignorant decides to raise baking and is looking for bat wings.

Also on our list for taking advantage of the ignorant is, look at the price of average equipment in the bazaar. Some people sell them for less that the vendor pays for them, so buy it and sell it to a vendor that you have good faction with.

Its really funny that you call people ignorant that dont know that the vendor in EC sells unlimited bat wings, when YOU yourself dont know that there actually is a vendor in the bazaar that also sells unlimited Bat Wings

I won't buy the silks for 10pp each, because I have more time than I do money. But I know TONS of people who have more money than they know what to do with (we're talking 300-500K) and they'll drop that kind of cash without even thinking twice about it. The reason the silks sell for 10pp on Fennin is because there are a good number of people who will pay 10pp for them. I play on Fennin myself, and know this for a fact - especially since I know a few of them myself. I won't sell my silks because I'm slowly working on tailoring myself, but I know of people who spend days farming in EK just to get some money in their bank accounts to buy that next spell or new weapon.

So when Mr. High Cost buys you out, he really is going to make 400pp off of you.

You are wrong. I know more than a few people on Stormhammer that run bank balances of one MILLION plat. If they decide they want spider silks, they'll drop a few K for silks at 10 plat each.

Personally, I keep my prices to what I think is reasonable because I don't think gouging tradeskillers is a good way to make a plat. If I get bought out by resellers, well, I made the profit at the price I asked for. Not my decision where it goes and who uses it. I know I funded a push to 250 tailoring for someone who bought my velious tailoring components at my prices as soon as I put em up and used half for skill ups and marked up the other half for resale. Smart guy, I'm not gonna piss and moan because he did something I don't. I made my money.

I'm closing this. It has been talked to death and back and always winds up getting nasty. Sometimes it's worth leaving it to let those who haven't been through it get a chance in the discussion. But when you start out talking about "buttmonkies", it's already too far gone to be worthwhile.

If you want to have a rational, productive discussion, try again without the insults and derogatory language. See the Visitor's Corner for guidelines. If you want to just holler about people who don't charge what you think they should...take it elsewhere, because all it'll do is make yet another fight for us to lock.
