Utterly OT - I hate spam

Just getting the email address - spammenot@cw.net - out into the wild. Please forgive the RL intrusion.

If anyone should feel the urge to include the above addy in the body of a usenet postings or what have you, feel free.

I hope you don't think having "spammenot" is going to discourage spammers in the least...

I like the program MailWasher (http://www.mailwasher.net) and have used it for a long time to prefilter spam. Because I also run a web-based business, I get a TON of spam and this gets it before it gets in my inbox.

Personally, I'm not going to e-mail an address that someone posts without explanation or some other way of knowing what it's about. I'm not trying to accuse anyone of anything, but If I don't know anything about it, there is an even-up chance that it's something I want, something I don't care about, or something I DON'T want. At this point, for all I know, that e-mail address could be set up to sift for live & active accounts to sell to spammers. The point is, I DON'T KNOW.

I think Zieggenfus's intention was to put out a fake email address that will get picked up by the spiders spammers use to collect addresses and waste their bandwidth. I've seen personal homepages with links in tiny font that go to pages chock full of fake email addresses, just to fake out the spammers' automatic systems and waste their resources.

Others use "fake" email addresses to harvest a larger collection of spam and spammers, to improve their filtering & blocking systems (and occasionally, legal battles). They *know* any email sent to that address is spam (since its only given out in ways that no human would send to it, and its not actively subscribed to anything), so its a relatively 'pure' sample.

That's what I though the address was, went I read the little blurb ... but he is rather vague, heh.
