  • no mouse

Last night when I was playing, I was having a few problems with my mouse buttons (clicking on objects). I was wondering if there was a way to use the keyboard to do the clicking? I know I should go get a new mouse, but I'm just feeling too lazy to do so.

    Thanks.

If you mean a way to actually control the mouse with the keyboard, I don't know of any way to do that directly via Everquest, nor do I know of any other programs to do it (although many inevitably must exist).

Everquest does have a large number of keyboard shortcuts, however, and you can do *most* things without a mouse (most things other than changing spells or moving loot around (including looting mobs and doing turnins and buying/selling)). The "use" key (U by default) will let you deal with most doors and objects (and merchants? I forget), which can help with basic movement to a safe spot when the mouse has gone cabluie.

I'm too sleepy to list um all ... but if the range of "what can I do with the keyboard?" was you're intent, if you post more specific actions I (or others) can try to answer them.

Well, basically, I was looking for a way to pick up inventory and move it around. I could move the cursor, but the clicking was just not working too well. But, I broke down and went and got another cheap mouse, as I need it for other programs that I use at home. I'm thinking of a trackball for the next time it happens. We'll see.

      Thanks for your response, though

For the sake of completeness, the /help command in game should let you get to a list of all possible keyboard commands. I don't know how thorough it is, but it's very, very long, so there's a good chance it's complete. When you /help you get a message telling you what to type to get different types of commands. The one you want I think is "/help normal", and as I said it's a looooong list. Don't type that unless you're somewhere quiet and can spend a lot of time scrolling through the list.

And to answer the original question...
There is nothing within EQ that will allow you to move items in inventory, nor click on combine with the keyboard.

Did a little looking around in Windows XP; in accessibility options there's a way to set up the directional keys to control the mouse pointer called "mouse keys". I'm not shure if this would work with EQ since they use their own pointer, buy you may be able to remap a few keyboard keys to work as left/right click buttons. /shrug, too lazy to try it out, mabe later when I have a bit more time.

Since you have a replacement mouse, if you have the old one still, check the contact points for the buttons. Most "mice" have a two part housing for the button that can be taken apart. I only recommend doing this if you have another mouse around since some of them have tiny springs in the button housing that will go anywhere BUT were you expect it to when you open it up. With a cotton swap that's had most of its tip pulled off, you can wipe some acetone (regular nail polish remover) over the contact points and then whip them again with the dry side of the swab. If it works, you have a spare mouse at no cost.
