  • been away too long

i've only recently learned that eq1 has gone free to play and am excited about being able to come back. however, after realizing just how long it took to install and set up my buttons again, i forgot to look in my bank and it was full of junk.

i need help now more than ever. what guides are available for me to catch up on the quests i had before, are there good sites for classes, etc...i really need a refresher of everything and some help getting to where i know the realms like the back of my hand (wait when did i get that mole??)

Wow! The plea is so wide ranged that it appears off-putting. But I will try to offer some insight.

That junk? Maybe, maybe not. If it is armor, probably so. Defiant armor of all levels through 80 is what you want to wear in visible slots plus weapons, too. However you referenced quests. Some of the stuff may be for quests. It also may be for the persuit of trades. You need LOTS of materials to get to maximum skill (300). Some of the trades have been really enhanced... jewelcrafting, alchemy, poison crafting and I used to say spell crafting... but in spell craftting what was given has now subtly been taken away.

Many class sites have passed away. There are still sites for Rogues, Magigians, Shaman/Paladin, Monks, Warriors, maybe Rangers and Necromancers.

I am glad that the free-to-play option has brought you back. You will enjoy it. However, I think you will find that the restrictions may be limiting and you may wish to participate at the maximum level after a while, especially if there is a warrior, paladin, shadow knight among your alts.

Depending on how long you've been gone - there have also been significant changes to tailoring and smithing though most, if not all, the old recipes are still viable for those two trades, whereas for the ones Paloverde mentions, not all the "old" recipes are still valid.

I still depend mostly on everquest.Allakhazam.com for most of my general "guides" and quests. For tradeskills in particular, there are some great summarized skill up guides in the forums. For detailed guides on specific trades, not much maintenance and updating has been done to the stuff here on this site. I've updated the spell research guide, but the updates are geared towards caster user (not melee) and again as Paloverde mentioned, EQs new approach to spells has mostly eliminated the viability of spell research for anything much more than folly.

AKA Muertenie, Melodee, Orelinde, Nounie, Gnomess, Cininea Ashryn, Mairede or a host of additional alts. Maybe also be found on Rabon, Kynsh or Atracker.

Significant changes to most tradeskills - some for the better, some will make you want to rip your hair out (research).

        What server are you on?
        Draggar De'Vir
        92 Assassin - Povar

57 Druid of Tunare - Povar
47 Druid of Tunare - Lockjaw

Hark! Who is that, prowling along the fields! It is Draggar De'VIr, hands clutching two hardened pitas! He cries gutterally: "In the name of Thor the Mighty, I hereby void your warranty, and send you back to God!!!"
