  • Patch March 31, 2007 (yes another patch!!)

saw the serverwide message and became suspicious due to the timing with April's Fool day.

If you read it backward it says: "Greetings Norrath! Please be sure to re-patch and check out the latest update notes at your convenience."

After the raid was done I repatched anyway.

    *** Highlights ***

    New Character Models!

We are pleased to announce that we have developed new technology that allows us to change the character models for all races at the same time. This includes the following:

    - New Graphics Engine: We completely overhauled the EverQuest graphics engine. . . yes again. All character models have been retextured using this new technology and the results are beyond anyone???s wildest dreams.
    - Dynamic effects for animations: Each movement of the model now acts as a separate entity, allowing more life-like animations.
    - Enhanced weapon visage: While we didn???t change the look of the weapons, they sure look better on the new character models.

    *** Items ***

    - Removed some unnecessary stats on Solteris items.
    - Fixed a problem with Journeyman's Boots.
    - Removed all keys that unlock doors from the world.

    *** Quests & Events ***

    - By popular request, we removed all quests and raids from the game. Loot from these events is now found in the form of ground spawns.
    - Added 200 new quests in the Slamming Door quest series.

    *** Spells ***

    - All spells have been renamed to include Al'Kabor in the name. Long live the King!
    - Created a new Enchanter spell, Charm Door.

    *** Zones ***

    - Fixed the door that leads into Sverag, Stronghold of Rage.
    - Burned Woods has been moved. We'll leave it up to you to find out where it went.
    - Halflings have been kicked out of Rivervale. Their new home is in Runnyeye... yeah, that's where it is.

    *** Classes ***

    - Rangers are now working as intended.
    - Bards have gained the ability to yodel.
    - Magicians can now use an Open Sesame ability to open locked doors.

    *** NPCs ***

    - Snakes still don't kick. I mean, seriously...
    - NPCs now lock the doors to their shops and homes at night. Quit waking them up in the middle of the night!

    *** Tradeskills ***

    - A recipe for Ngreth's Nutritional Nightcap has been added. This drink will give some very nice stats, but will make the player drunk (player, not character). However, you'll have to seek out this recipe on your own.
    - Alchemy is not broken.
    - A new tradeskill has been added: Doorcraft. Recipes from this tradeskill will allow you to modify existing doors throughout the world including changing knobs, resetting hings, and patching holes in the door.

    - The EverQuest Team
...and got the stick figure graphic. No more race issue!!

Incidentally, the servers haven't been down so if you have been on all night like I have you don't see stick figures. (I have no intention of logging out.)

Well, maybe *now* I'll ok Ngreth dancing the dance of the seven veils, as mentioned in the tailoring forum, but Niami is most definitely suffering from a pie emergency!

        Happy Bristlebane Day, folks!

          Of course.

We purposefully broke the boards in a way that leaves an error message, just to get you! We didn't do something more inventive, we just purposefully broke it!

On the whole, I like the new stick figures, but there are a few minor problems.

The smile animations seem to be totally borked. And the female toons, where are their HOOTERS?

It looks like Ngreth ate a spider there....I can see the legs sticking out of his stomach.

I'm actually loving the stick figures, and I don't plan on repatching any time soon. It's the first time in a few years that my traders get NO LAG in the bazaar! =)

I plan to save the DLL file that was downloaded with the patch so I can keep the stick figure for a while longer.

I wish I didn't. This was "funny" (not the haha funny, just like hmmm, funny) for about 2 seconds, and now is annoying.

I'll second your vote about the stick figures, Kyroskrane. The first time I logged on and ran around the Plane of Knowledge, I was amazed at how freely the zone graphics flowed along. It takes having the Luclin models turned off to realize what a resource hog they are. If Sony was nice, they would keep these stick figure models for players to use if they choose. They would be perfect for situations where there is lots of graphically induced lag, such as raids with lots of players.

                          Cool

Well, I thought it was kinda cool, and it does noticably cut down on lag for me in some places (cough PoK Main Bank cough Bazaar cough). I wouldn't mind having it as an all the time option.

I really want one of those nightcap drinks though. Figure out how to implement that one for real and this game will never die. (read continuous job security)

Thanks to Ngreth and the rest of the devs for a kinda offbeat fun day

Edit: and I forgot to add, alchemy is not broken, especially not compared to old alchemy My rogue is anxiously awaiting a similar makeover for poisonmaking.

Tot hose keeping the dll, at some point the "kept" dll will stop working. But for those that want to keep it, enjoy it until it does It may not let you get away with it, but more power to you trying (I am not sure how insistent the patcher will be about the dll)

for those that want to keep it you can change your shortcut to

                              "C:\Program Files\Everquest\eqgame.exe" patchme

to skip the patch (yeah odd... but whatever)

at some point though, there will be enough of a mismatch that you will have to patch to play.
