did I miss something? GM's and Guilds

yesterday to my BIG suprise I saw a lvl 26 GM (green name) with a guild tag, and the tag was not Ambassadors of Norrath but a guild which I have seen around for quite a bit.

I thought GMs where not allowed to be part of a 'normal' guild, and 'normally' hunt with them as others?

Funny thing was that this GM seemed to be on the run from me once I spotted him in PoK and came too close.

Did I miss changes to the way GMs work? Or was this an illegal operation?

Personally I would have a serious issue with GMs now being able to join 'normal guild' as this could create all sorts of issues of favoritism

Heh, it's probably a leftover bug. Occasionally, GM's have to make changes to a player's account, and sometimes that requires them to log in as the player, upgrade the account to GM privileges, make the changes, then return the account to player status and log off. It's rare, but sometimes a GM will forget to return the account to normal player status when doing this. GM-flagged player accounts have some sort of protection to prevent abuse, so players can't use GM commands, but they retain the green name in these cases.

Also.

The command to make someone a gm... is a targeted command. So from time to time when a GM wants to change their own status they mistakenly have player targeted, and here they may not even notice the mistake (I actually made this mistake once...)

Also, Might not be a bug. Our very own TS GM Ngreth joined my guild for a little while to check out a bug in guild halls a while back. A Code GM joined him, But not before I'd taken a screenshot of Ngreth with my guildtag on him. So there might be a legit reason for them to have that tag. Ngreth in my guild hall is the pic I used on my MYSPACE account.

I have seen a few on bertox that show up on /who all GM (I hit the command from time to time to see if anything is going on :P)
They dont have green names..
Got laughed at the first time i asked "umm, why is this guy who isnt in the GM guild on the GM list?"
