Drop down lists in a Signature

I've seen a few people with drop down lists in their signatures for each of their tradeskills, which I think is really cool. Unfortunately I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to coding in php (among other things). I looked around on the web for some guides, but they seemed to involve mostly selecting things so that you could select other things (i.e. Country -> states/counties -> towns).

I was just curious if there was a guide out there somewhere that I missed that someone knew of. I'd love to get my sig with those, since I hate having a large sig, but I would love to get my other characters in too, since their tradeskills are starting to grow as I'm looking for different items.

I'm guessing its probably just experience that long time board users have gotten through trial and error, but just incase there was a web guide out there that I had missed I thought I'd ask.

Here is an example of how mine worked in this thread. Note that all the nice spaces and carrage returns had to be eliminated to get it to look nice.
