  • How to avoid barter scam...

Passing this link from EQ Forum:
    Linky

Screenshow of why the default UI makes it easy for scammer or lazy buyer to cheat and shortchange you and how to make sure you get what you expected when selling things to buyer in barter section.

Pass this around, the more people that knows about this, the less viction would feed the scammer and eventually drive scammer out of business.

Whoa, sneaky stuff there! I've sold things to buyers before, but I never realized that the list can be expanded to the point where you can see the prices they are offering for the goods they desire.

Fortunately, it's a simple matter to resize the box larger than the default setting. Guess what I'll be doing right away!

Thank you for that information, Grolyn. Not all of us are aware of things like that!

something i want to point out..... which is my warped point of view, but the barter system is a system set up to tell what that buying is willing to pay for an item. I've always said the bazaar prices are way out of whack and i wouldn't pay the majority of the prices for things. When someone OOCs that they are selling XXX item for 50k OBO (or best offer) i'll offer 1k for it because that is what I am willing to pay for it.

So let's say i want to buy MDS. I feel they are not worth 30k. I may have 10k to my name and I need 5 for the combines i want to do.... so i say i'll pay 2k for a MDS. If people want to sell them to me for 2k, then i'm happy to know there are people out there who don't mind helping people out. Is it likely i will get many sellers? But that is still what I want to pay for them. That is the rules of the barter zone and I am following the rules.

Not sure if the devs have changed the barter window since people started complaining about it, or if i was just plain smart enough to begin with, but i've always seen the prices. But i'll admit that if someone put in a price of 29kGP instead of 29KPP i may miss that. And were i to do that, i wouldn't cry foul on the buyer, because he stated, in plain text visable for me to see, that he was paying 29kgp. it's my fault for not paying attention. Do all barter buyers need to have a warning pop up on people's screens when they click on them that prices may not be listed in PP? Since we have to disclaim that coffee is hot, maybe we need to start adding this stupid disclaimers to our little piece of reality in Norrath.

Acutally, if you try to enter 100 gold (for example) it automatically converts it to 10 plat.

I search for the item I want to sell...only....never do a general search as it list the first 200 buy lines and what you want to sell will be lost. I thought however that you could sort by prices...hmmm need to log back in to check.

Yuppers I logged back in and sure enough you can click on the blue wording like item name or price or what have you and sort either assending or decending....Just a little note dont take the first offer and always search by item then sort prices...and you wont be a victim.

Kind of, you can only sort list in /barter window. When you are looking at individual's buy line there is no way to sort by anything

Well, then all I have to say is if you go looking to sell something and you do not use a more precise searching and you go to the fool trying to rip people off then let the seller beware.
