I'd like to take a moment and raise a glass to the passing of Star Wars Galaxies on November 15, 2005. It was a fine ride while it lasted.

.....and may the NGE crash and burn into the zapper posthaste.

They made a MAJOR change to how the game is played.

It is now more like being the star of the movie, than just a bit player in a huge world. It is on first blush, a much simpler game, but I did not get but a few hours to play with it, so I can't say much from first hand.

It's a lot more like you'd think a Star Wars universe would be, but it's basically a whole new game after last week. Some folks love it, some folks hate it. A *lot* of the folks who have been playing it for a long time are having issues adjusting to the changes (we're creatures of habit, change is "bad", and I can be as guilty of that as the next person).

I'll say for the record that I really miss my creature handler, even if it wasn't a very Star Wars-ish sort of profession ... and that's all I'll say before I am forced to move this over to Primal Scream.

They have a 10-day free trial (which limits you to the tutorial area fyi.) I'd recommend giving it a try.

Speaking as someone who has never played the game before, the NGE played too much like a FPS. Personally, I've never been a huge fan of FPSs, so no go for me. I'm also not wild about how they made "Trader" its own class. As much as I loved tradeskills in EverQuest, I'm not sure I would've enjoyed doing just that. And well, it just seems wrong that they have that many Jedis running around at a time that's supposed to be set after Episode 3. Maybe I'll just stop while I'm ahead.

But, go ahead and give it a try. You never know, you might like it. What do you have to lose?
