  • Whats in a name

I know alot of people take pride in the name they have created for themselves (or stolen from their favorite book/movie/game) but what does your name mean, where did it come from? I'll Start.

    Thanks random name generator...

Munnwin....then cut to Munwin before hitting accept becasue 2 Ns seemed silly.

Not sure if I should reveal this..

Melinia... its just a slight adjustment from my RL name. Only 2 letters are different.

Second main.. Satlynn ... I have no recollection of why I choose it. Original last name was Bloodynose... (Beastlord).. switched it to Krazyfists which was more appropriate.

    Buuffy ... No explanation Pally

Jadzial.. Inspired from a Star Trek character.

Nynuk ... Was the original name for a guilty pleasure boy band I like. Can ya guess ? Was originally a bard but deleted her at lvl 12 and made her into a bezerker which is now in her 20s.

Paliphanie - a verbal twist on Persephone a character from Greek mythology. (It's pronounced pa-LIF-a-knee not the pally-fanny I hear so often from people. )

Briatta - strickly me just rattling of things in my head til I got something I liked.

Oona/Oonna - The faerie/sprite in the movie Legend that "faerie glamours" herself to look like Lily. (Note: The movie spelling is Oona and that's what I started with, but when I did a server transfer I got the lovely x at the end so I had it changed to Oonna.
        Oonna Wynterbreeze - 61 Enchanter

          Names

Eowenna Celerdain - honors Tolkien's Eowyn of Rohan. Celerdain was the name of the lamplighter's street in Minas Tirith. She's a Paladin - who else would conquer a wraith king with her sword?

Galadri Leafshimmer - inspired by Tolkien's Galadrim. Surname because those elves' trees had leaves that shimmered. Cleric. I wish I'd named her differently, because of the constant confusion with others who use variations on "Galadriel."

Beruthielle Silverleaf - In LotR, a place is so dark that "even Queen Beruthiel's cat's couldn't see!" I liked it. Silverleaf - she's an elvish jeweler. (She's from a dark elf illusionist who... well, her mama was one surprised high elfess. My dark lass is always pulled two ways by her opposing heritages.) Enchantress.

Legolia Greenleaf - honors a son of Tolkien's wood-elf king. Ranger. Today, I'd name her differently. People persistently call her variations on "Leggy," which just don't convey her character properly.

Keleen - from CJ Cherryh's "Faded Sun" trilogy. The Mri fighting class were collectively "the Kel," with gents titled "Kel'en" and ladies titled "Kel'e'en." Mri fighters did *not* bear burdens. A monk, who doesn't wear black as the Mri did in the books.

Pouncibelle Starwhisper - Inspired by "Cats." I noticed "Pouncival" and "Tumblebrutus" among the credits at the end when I was looking for cat names. I'd invented "Pouncibelle" as a female variation of "Pouncival," if needed. Both cats are toms, so my Vah Shir inherited the female name. Starwhisper seemed fitting for a moon-bred bardess.

Areysia - "I rez 'ya." She was my temporary froggy cleric. I had to try the race when they first went live, but I found all that hopping distracting.

I had lots of cool names that I wanted and all got rejected so I exclaimed "Oh come on! Something must work". Then I thought about what I just said and went with it. "Come on" became Kahmon which I now pronounce "Kuh-mon"

Kahzbot is shortened from Kahmon's Tinkbot since thats all he's for.

Mules: Sixteenspaces & Mourespaace should be self explanatory.

Vektor Sigma was created to play with a friend who chose teh name Orionpax. Both are Transformers references.

Tumeowney was a the Vah Shir I created upon Luclins relrease. It masically meant: Too many stupid cat names. I couldn't stand the way Vah Shir run & jump so he very quickly became just another mule.

Grimoire - A large (physically) book of Magic spells. Been a character name I have been using in games for about 15 years or so. The first time was in Shadowrun pen and paper. Originally a Street fighter that went for maximum speed modifications, but turned into the "pure" damage dealing spellcaster in games.

Sonoroud - derived as a concious modification (was not a typo) of sonorous meaning Impressive in syle or speach. First used in a Pen and Paper Vampire the Masquerade chjaracter (the Rose people... the artsy ones) Now used for any Necromancer or necromancer like character I made.

Ngreth Thergn - Was suposed to be Ogreth. After an Ogre cleric I made as a DM in D&D. The cursed name filter would not allow Ogreth... so thought about it for about 10 minutes, almost did not amke the character... then Made Ngreth... the last name is just... the first name backwards, modified to be pronouncible. What do you expect from an Ogre!!!
              Ngreth Thergn

Ngreth nice Ogre. Ngreth not eat you. Well.... Ngreth not eat you if you still wiggle!

Wyvernwill Shadowbreaker - Paladin. Original inspiration was to be along the lines of having the will of a dragon. Granted, wyvern's aren't as cool as dragons, but similar styling. Shadowbreaker seemed suiting for a Paladin. Ingame persona/roleplay was very modest and willing to help everyone, anywhere.

Shadowedblood Cryptwalker - Necro. Was looking for a name that was dark, sinister and some what creepy in the end. Was also the character I roleplayed the best, though he was my second created. Shadowed's personality matched up well with my more... off color sense of humor and joke flavor.

Leathile Wepuns was just a bad joke for a monk, but oh well lol.

I use to be heavily into roleplaying, atleast until my main hit his level 50s and people started looking at you funny just because you were "acting weird."

Scuzz Zilla was the second of three brothers of iksar (my RL friends), of Slizz Skizz Scuzz and Fuhz. They were susposed to be created just for fun but Scuzz sorta took off.

The surname came because i used to med underwater in LOiO to avoid PK's.. so i sorta made the godzilla entrance, came out of the water, ate some stuff(mobs), and went back in =)

Dunthor - the random name generator yielded Danthor, and I played with it a little, eventually changing only one letter. Still a bit embarassed about that . Have furthor modified the name for other games/uses, including Dunthack (&Dunthak), Dunthir, and Dunsarms (started as abbreviation of "Dunthor's Arms and Armor", but now feels like a name in its own right).

Gaakel - searching for something short and simple. Thought of "gak" as a sound (as in the Nickelodeon goo), added 'a' for pronouncibility and "el" for variety.

Verusage - a combination of latin "verum" (truth) and the common fantasy term "sage" (usually referencing a wise one or arcane caster). His ship was Seeker of Truth, which was what I'd hoped for his name to mean as well. (originally was for the MMO Earth&Beyond, but I've reused the name for many caster characters since)

Granite - referencing the stone, for a warrior-mentality character. No other interesting metal or tough material seemed both fit for a high fantasy setting and easily/non-awkwardly functional as a name.

Sorry in advance for confusing any non-MtG players.

I have played Magic: the Gathering for about 11 years now. I'm a Type 1 (old school) player. My old deck was infamous for recursion, and, as such, I would cast Timetwister several times a game (and, in more than a few instances, several times in a turn/series of turns.)

So, Twistagain just kind of stuck.

Angelsyn Whitewings, Keyne Falconer, Adelie Silvertree...

All characters I helped create for my cousin's book series.

My Dwarven Warrioress, Stumbles, was supposed to have the surname "Underfoot"... but the game wouldn't let me, and I've since stopped playing her.

Niami (nee-AH-mee) - was a mutation of Niamh for an old D&D campaign I was in, that fizzled out quickly. I so enjoyed the little halfling cook/priestess, though, and her demands for a cast-iron rolling pin as a weapon, that the name/persona got reused.

Triptych (a 3-part mural or painting, often religious in nature) - a dark elven triplet with quite the convoluted and dark history that involves gods, curses, and all that fun stuff.

Sadly, while many of the others have some interesting meaning and sources behind their names, I still use them once in a while, so don't want to give them away and make them visible targets.

Okay, I'll start with my main character Eogh. I originally invented the name Eoghnved Mmrkuudnen for one of the Electronic Arts NHL Hockey console games. I got enough laughs out of such a strange name that I began using Eoghnved as an online alias when I first started using the internet. EverQuest wouldn't let me name my character Eoghnved for some reason, so I just went with Eogh Nved.

My second character is named Adbarst. I tried to name him Tabsard (which is an anagram of Bastard) after a character I always used to create in the Wizardry line of games. When that one got rejected I switched the letters around and got Adbarst.

Character three is named Deglar. Deglar is an anagram of Gerald, a name I've been closely linked with from April 21, 1969. It's funny because Deglar is a cleric of Rodcet Nife and I'm an atheist IRL.
