Does this mean no expansions at all? Or only people who eat Ferro Roche and attend the ambassadors party are allowed to play? Or something else?

I would go try discord again where death means death.

Oooh, yes, I would play Discord, or on a limited time classic server (ie, one that was not meant to last longer than a few months). But not if it was just a new server.

I didn't like this configuration, because there are too many glitch ways to go. In the three cases where I died on the Discord server, only one was in combat. Once was the old zone problem where someone would zone in and stand there, and then you'd zone in on top of them and fall repeatedly for damage. I was only level 4 at the time, so two falls was enough to finish me off, and I got to start over. The second time, I went linkdead and ran off into the ocean. I was dead before the game realized I was gone, and again, I got to start over. I only got around to fighting another character once, and that was someone I ran into at second level, and let's just say that fight was less than exciting (two Erudites beating on each other with sticks because nobody could get a spell off may be funny, but there really wasn't much thrill to it). If they incorporated some method for protecting against glitch deaths, or only made combat a prerequisite at certain times (like having to defeat another charater or characters to gain levels), or put in /testbuff so people can start above level 1, or something like that I'd try it again, but after spending a lot of time gaining newbie levels only to end up losing it all to a dumb glitch just wasn't fun.

By the way, most folks I know refer to "classic" Everquest as the trilogy (original, Kunark and Velious) although others mean literally only the original game area. I'd go with Luclin and before, but frankly I think that anyone who wants to go back to the world of "blow a night's gaming to get from Qeynos to Kelethin" needs their head examined. I'd even consider only the original world (and Kunark or Velious or both), plus the Plane of Knowledge, but life's too short to run across the Karanas more than once.

Can you imagine what would happen if everything was rolled back to the "classic" game? /em Shudders - buying everything in singles instead of in stacks?

Yeah, the idea doesn't cut it for me at all. I think there are some people who belive that EQ was "better" through the rosey eyes of hindsight. Its easy to remember the fun things, and forget the frustrations.

Moreover, I think it would only be a "classic" EQ server for 3 or 4 months, when all the high end characters have played out all the high end content of that EQ era. Then, they will want EQ Luclin classic added, possibly with Planes of Power Classic as well. Eventually playing Dragons of North Classic would also be the next step in their character growth.

For me, I just wish that exp and loot in old world zones really rivals new expansion loot/exp (ie shared loot & exp tables) based on mob levels. Then you could hunt anywhere you want for the same rewards.
