More Server Merges

I have a question about these server merges and couldn't find the answer on any of the boards... maybe someone here could help? I'm currently on Tarrew Marr, leading an active family guild and were facing a server merge with drinal next month and the servers will continue under the Drinal name. Will this merge leave the guilds intact or does this mean my guild should start clearing our guild bank and use all of our guildtribute because we will need to reform again after this server merge occurs? Thanks in advance! =)

Server merges do leave guilds in tact, however any public guild notes and the record of guild tribute (not the points, just the record of who donated) were gone after the Zek merge. DoN wasn't out yet then so I can't say how it would affect the guild bank.

If the name of your server changes, you will also need to go though and copy/rename your config files. For instance when Solusek Ro's name was changed to Bristlebane, I had to rename all file *_solusek.ini to *_bristle.ini
There are two config files for each character.

It would be nice if EQ were given the smarts to look for either file when servers have been merged and writeout to the new one. But I guess Sony wants us to also do a bunch of work during this merge, just like they have to do a bunch of work (cept they're getting paid by us to do it).

I am looking forward to server merger of Vazaelle. did a quick check of Maelin and overall the atmosphere is about the same (same number of KEI beggars, same number of people flaming newbie trying to hit a warrior for temp, etc) I did see the price in bazaar is a lot lower than the price of Vazaelle bazaar. About time there's real competition in bzaar. The only major drawback I can see with bazaar is people who make a living buying cheap and selling high is going to be stuck with big debts because the average price would end up dropping below what the old "cheap" price used to be.

Oh yeah make sure you log on any toon under 10 as SoE will delete any low level toon not logged on in the last 6 months and if you have toons on both server being merged, clean out the shared bank as only one shared bank can merga, deleting anythinbg on the other shared bank.

Will there be more server merges? (compiled from many submitted PMs)

We are watching the servers that have merged, checking their population and feedback, before we decide to proceed with more mergers. If we do continue to merge servers, the toughest challenge we face is which server to stick with Povar. You know how those people from Povar are. . .

I'm still not happy about losing the name Karana. To go from the God of Rain to the God of Disease...from a pretty name like Karana to that wretched Bertoxxulous.... But in popping over there to find out if my name will stay mine (it will) I've already met a couple of very nice people. There were lots more people in PoK there than Karana. I hear the Bazaar is busier, too. So aside from being stuck with such an ugly server name, I can see some good coming from this. Although I'm glad I met Karana on Karana, at least. That screenshot will mean a lot more, now.

And if there's ever another server merge, I hereby volunteer Bertox to lose its name. *hides from the native Bertoxxians*

I simply can't understand why they would get rid of any original server names. I play on veeshan and there is a lot of pride there in all teh server firsts that we had over the years as well as well known guilds like Fires of Heaven and currently Cestus Dei which was the first to Beat the Final bosses of both GoD & OoW.

Now my server which is loaded with history will be no more. After the mistake with tailoring that SoE made a month ago it feels like they simply no longer care about product quality. After people try to point out the obvious to them and they turn a blind eye it seems they no longer care about their customers either.

I still love playing EQ, and I'll keep paying and playing til it ends, but when EQ is gone I'm never spending another dime on a sony product again.

Actually, it will be all the same people and all the same guilds. Just when you click enter on the login screen, the server name is different.

I don't agree with losing Veeshan, but people there are making a huge issue out of it. If the people at SoE say Luclin has more players, then that's how they decide. We all know you lost a ton of people.

You think the name is that important on the server? It's the guilds that are important. Names like Fires of Heaven will still be talked about in the history of EQ.

And you know what? I had to go Google the FoH guild just to find out what server they were on! Because I had no idea, and that's about how important the issue really is.

Fight the issue if you can, but if you quit EQ over this and guilds fall apart from people leaving, that is when you will truley be no more.

this could also be just a ploy to build servers back up to a nice community and replace old equiptment. Bristlebane server is a new server since it came down during pop era and was replaces, my server Saryrn is newer than the machine we are merging with.

As far as losing names of servers I think that its harder for them to transfer everyone from one server to another and then change the named of the new server. so they are keeping the servers name. IE MM and Saryrn. MM is old saryrn is new, why put in all the extra work
