  • The Woes of Having an Ickysour Warrior for a Son

Of the few forums/sites for warriors out there, almost no mention of Iksar and armour are found. Any suggestions for sites or forums that might cover this arcance and clear distasteful subject.

    I tried telling my son:
"An Iskar warrior has restrictions on armour that might limit your effectiveness, oh brilliant son of mine"

"Oh, no, Dad, Iskars are cool. They have regen and can swim and everything!"

"Have you checked to see what armours are available for when you reach the raiding levels?"

"Daddddd, come on. Look at the neat tail. The faces are so cool! These guys have to be the coolest out there!"

"They do look impressive, are there any good quests for Iskars for no drop armours?"

"Dad, with a character this cool, they have to have lots of stuff for it."

"Do they have cultural armours they can make?"

"God! Dad! Not the Tradeskilling thing again! I just wanna kill stuff!"

As I move farther away from the sword on the wall, fearing I might do something rash, "Ok, well I guess you have you mind set on this. What name did you choose?"

"Tchamuhphur! I found it in a comic book!"

Shaking my head, "Let me explain about hot keys and assists..."

"It means 'Tasty Snack'! Isn't that cool!"

    "Right..."

Unfortunately, none of my chars are Ickysours. And Tradeskilling offers no allure to the ungrateful retch I spawned (I worked so hard to get my halfling up in smithing and now I can't make stuff for him)!

Iksar armor issues went out with Velious. All armor is RACE: ALL now. take my warriors magelo for example:
        http://www.magelo.com/eq_view_profile.html?num=710394
has the same gear that any wariror can wear. Also, yes Iksar are by far the "coolest" =)

ikkys are only cool cause their scales don't have fur
nothing to keep their black hearts warm (do they have hearts?) :P

            "Tchamuhphur!"

            oh, my, gosh.

tell him to type it out twenty times from memory. then dump a scrabble box out and pick 11 letters and make names out them, like "sofuyfndwsi" and tell him to look at it once and type it out. (ie sending tells). Repeat this until he understands that complicated names != coolfactor.

my wow warrior's name is "renkinjutsu" which is most of the japanese word for 'alchemy' (the game wouldn't take the 'shi' on the end, too long). I did this intentionally; I do not like random group/guild invites, and I had HOPED that having a complicated name would discourage this. It generally appears to have worked (tho not fully). However, in a game like EQ where I presume he /wants/ to make friends.... he really needs a simpler name.

And warriors don't want to BE 'tasty snacks'! Tell him that : p. He need to be INedible... if he wanted to be an edible tank, he should be a ranger.

Altho it is excessively cute that you got your son to play a game with you. I share so few interests with my family, it's hard to imagine doing stuff like playing eq with my brother or my father. ^_^ I wish him luck. ^_^

I did get the reptophilic spawn of my loins to do some research for armour after a few quiet, thoughtful, rational discussions (with occasional trips to his room to cool off). We found that LDoN armours from the adventure merchants will offer him a good option for AC/Stats. It will allow him to kill stuff, get experience, and he can give me his forages. Luckily, my cleric is close enough to his level that I can help keep him alive. The few times he has grouped with other clerics, really has helped him appreciate me!

He still doesn't listen much, but I still have lots of stuff to throw at him.
