I am getting broadband and intend to play EQ ( got my last prob sorted with a copy of new dawn)

    Most broadband providers cap usage

I will play for about 3 hrs a week ( I know not mush but real life takes up most of my time)

Any omne have an idea of how much gigabyte useage this would be

Where are you located? Out in the sticks somewhere, maybe? I've never heard of a broadband provider setting any meaningful cap on usage. If they do have a cap, it's usually set so that you can't run a large, popular web site from your house (their primary concern -- if you want to run a web site, they want you to pay extra for a business account), but not so high that a normal person would ever come anywhere near the cap, even if they play online games 24/7.

I don't know what kind of a cap I have on my broadband, but I often leave my trader up overnight, for days on end (while I'm not playing) and I've never had any problems with a cap.

Your best bet is to pick up the phone and call the broadband provider to get more specifics. Everquest is a common game and most likely they have heard of it and fielded questions about the burden on the server systems. Even if they are not familar with it you can give them the basics to give them an idea of the usage.

EQ doesn't use allot of bandwidth.. The main need for broadband to play EQ is latency

Heck, I can play on my dialup which often gets only 28.8, and even raid as long as I have a connection of 35k+ or so, so I doubt you'd run into any problems unless the cap was unbelievably low.

I forget the exact numbers, but they are posted, somewhere, on the EQLive site. (the official one) But if I remember correctly the bandwidth useage for EQ is tiny, compared to ... say... streaming video.

I'll go look now and see if I can find it.

              EDIT: Found it, sort of...

Bandwidth Usage Information for EverQuest Mac

              Question
Bandwidth Usage Information for EverQuest Mac

              Answer
This information is intended to help users and their ISPs predict bandwidth usage for EverQuest for the Macintosh playtime. In some situations, ISPs might impose bandwidth limitations or may charge for bandwidth when a monthly/weekly threshold has been exceeded.

This information is based on averages and approximations as of October, 2001. It is important to note that there are no bandwidth limitations imposed on EverQuest for the Macintosh, and that these numbers may increase without notice. Sony Online Entertainment, Inc. will not be responsible for any bandwidth charges incurred as a result of game play.

Currently, average play bandwidth used is 8Kbits per second, and upload averages 2Kbits per second. That comes out to 1KByte per second download, and 250Bytes per second upload from the client (player) point of view. In one hour of gameplay, a client PC downloads 3.6MB and uploads 900KB.

Ok, that's for MAC but PC shouldn't be greatly different.

              5MB per hour, 8 hours a day, 30 days a month.

1.2 Giga-Bytes a month (and that's -pretty- hardcore with 10 /played days a month) should be WELL under your bandwidth limits and 5MB an hour is nothing.
