  • Getting started

I have re found my original copy of Ruins of Kunark & fancy playing EQ again after a few yrs break. Programme installs ok however I get an error message why I try to log on line. It is running patch 1.1.7 (Ithink)
what patches/downloads do I need & where can I get them.

If this is a lot of hassle am I better off with a new game (however comp is only pent 2 550, with 128 ram)

    Thanks Garry

Sorry, but this needs to move... the 'Help wanted' section on this board is for the EQ Traders Staff to ask folks for help with getting data.

This request is for help getting the basic game functioning. It is not even tradeskill related. Therefore I moved it to OOC.

I think Ruins of Kunark is just another expansion. Silly question but do you have the original, vanilla everquest installed? Once that is installed, it should be able to patch everything it needs.

FYI, there are TONS more expansions out there now and Everquest Platinum is pretty cheap. Platinum includes most of the expansions. I'd recommend just getting that unless you have other expansions?

Everquest Platinum edition is ~ 25-30 and includes everything up to and including GAtes of Discord. The only expansion not included is Omens of War.

Actually, IIRC, the RoK CD could be used to open a fresh account as well, so it included the basic game as well as the expansion. I've started installs on new computers from my RoK CD and had no problem. I don't think any of the later expansions did that, just RoK.

However, with the EQ-platinum going for the same price as many of the expansions were originally (each... makes me feel like I spent too much money buying them individually), I'd probably go for a fresh copy anyway.

However, no matter how much memory you've got, a 550MHz machine isn't going to give you very good performance -- you're going to have some trouble in heavily-populated areas like PoK and the Bazaar.

You don't mention what version of Windows you are running -- if it's still 95, you won't be able to play. You need to have DirectX 9, which Win95 doesn't support. If you're running Win98 or later (I can't imagine running anything later than Win98 on that machine), you can get it from Microsoft via Windows Update
