Tracking friends across MMO's

God I hate ads as much as the next person, but I think this bears mentioning since this is a fansite and not some IGE endeavor. There's a little grassroots site that has been around since February but hasn't gotten much attention, mostly due to its long development cycle. But anyway, I wanted to share it.

It allows folks to track each other across the various MMOs that are out (or are coming out). Say someone knows me in EQ as Prachlyn, but they are now playing EQ2 or some other MMO and want to know if I have a character there. Via this site, they can find out.

The area in question is The Census along the left panel. You can search for characters or add your characters. They have specific areas right now for EQ, COH, and SWG, with a database for more obscure games that aren't huge in the US (Lineage, Ragnarok, etc). As I'm told, EQ2 and WOW areas will be added as soon as server lists are made public.

Anyway, it's a neat little site (IMO) with a good idea as we get more and more MMOs on the market. There's also some other bells & whistles that might be handy like a public calendar system, the obligatory links area, and some other stuff (like a cheesy little game that pays tribute to old BBS games).

Just thought I'd share. Since it's not a huge company endeavor, word of mouth is really the only way it's going to get off the ground. Maybe help spread the word a bit?

Thanks for the info. I have a couple toons listed there now on CoH, as well as my (retired) main on Vazaelle. More people are needed to make this a working list, though.

~edit~Haven added the Vazaelle server for me. YAY! I got a response very quickly, and so far I am impressed. But the census still needs more info that can only come from the players.

Even though I've poked and prodded on the EQT forums forever (pre and post-phpBB), I did read the forum rules first before posting to make sure I wasn't violating a rule! Glad to see an official "ok" though regardless. If I come across anything else fun but obscure, I'll be sure to pass it by an admin first.

That said.

Yes, the site definately needs more input to become the living, breathing entity that it is poised to be. I'm trying to spread the word around as I can. The more people that use it and get their friends/guilds/whatever to use it should create enough momentum that this will become just another resource that we use in our gaming lives.

EQ2 area should be up on it shortly, pending an official server list, I believe.

For those that are using the site and will be playing EQ2, the EQ2 area was opened up tonight.

They added Beta 1 and Beta 2 to the server list for beta folk to keep up with each other now that it's Live, if they so choose to list themselves.

Enough advertising.. go use it. I hope some of my friends in Beta find me through it since the final week or so I lost track of them and want to keep in touch.
