Hi All,
Thought I would post this here instead of on the EQ2 boards because it pertains more to those that aren't in Beta...
I won a slot in Beta (woot thanks Den Mom!) and was pretty sure my video card would support it. My machine is above the other requirements and to be honest with you the video card specs are a bit difficult to interpret for those of us that aren't computer gurus.
Well, it didn't work. I debated over getting a new card for a couple of days and did alot of research to see if what was affordable would also run the game well. I finally figured that a new card would make EQ run better even if I decided that EQ 2 wasn't for me, so I went ahead and got an ATI RAdeon 9550 ($130 max price)and a RAM upgrade while I was at it. (My machine is a 2.66 P4 with 1gig of ram now). It feels like I got a new computer!
With this configuration I can run EQ 2 with graphics on Medium with absolutely no lag. I'm sure that will change when the game goes live and there are alot more players in the zones, but I can't imagine it will get that bad...
Before the upgrade I would get pretty bad lag at times in regular EQ, but that seems to have disappeared and I was able to turn up all graphics settings to high except for shadows. Shadows created a wee bit of lag in PoK when I tried it so I figured out it wasn't worth having them on.
Anyhow, if you have doubts about whether your card will work, it probably won't... There is an awesome post on the EQII forums about compatible Video cards that anyone that is thinking of buying the game might find useful! Here is the link:Video Cards
