  • Velium weapon conversion thoughts

Figured since this didn't exactly pertain to smithing I would post it here.

If, and that's a big if, they make it so that velium weapons can beconverted to velium ore, how will that effect your velium farming and/or purchasing?

Personally if I knew for a fact that it would happen, I would go buy up every velium weapon I could find. At less than 100p per weapon from vendors, I'm assured at least two stackable pieces, possibly more, which in turn will sell for 50pp each in the bazaar. I can easily see blowing my 30k I have banked for a TS run on velium weapons and converting to ore to sell or use. However, the price of 50p per might not last too long, figuring now the weapons are worth something and they can drop off level 30 mobs very often. Thus I wonder how long it would be profitable to sell the velium before price dropped far enough where it's more economical to buy it for skillups...

    Whatchall think on this?

Well, it would make farming the stuff easier. All those velium weapons that drop in GD and EW would be useful.

I would imagine the price for velium would drop quickly. On Lanys, the bazaar price on black sapphires and jacinth have already dropped about 66% due to the OOW gem tables. Of course, the drop happened right after I got my 7th trophy made

I wouldn't bet the whole bank on this. If they allow the conversion (and that's a big IF) the price of velium would plummit down to practically nothing very quickly. I think it's a interesting idea, but you really need to be careful. You could easily lose 2/3 of your investment by trying to be too clever.

Actually they have agreed to look into this as a serious possibility in the same vein that they added the breakdown of Fine Steel weapons in the past.

This is something that we should definately pursue as an alternate source of velium. This will not cause the price of Velium to drasticly plumet due to the already existing weight/space limitations involved in getting and transporting the velium weapons to the forge in the first place.

Yes this will increase the supply which will drive the price down. But I feel that it will largely drive the price to a reasonable level rather than the current prices which are where they are due to Skillups in both Tailoring and SMithing (EVBs anyone?)

I was really referring to Silound's thoughts about spending his entire bankroll on velium weapons and stuff, so that he can resell them in the bazaar for a profit. It's a great idea, but you gotta be careful, because the price of velium will fall so quickly, that he may wind up losing a lot of plats.

As someone who only ever buys rather than sells velium, I'd be jumping for joy. I can't stand to pay that much for such a basic staple (same as leather padding) so I almost always just farm it for myself. If prices came down to a more reasonable level, I'd probably do a lot more buying in the Bazaar. (Yes, I know, it's what the market supports...I just can't stomach it.)

I would probably also spend more time farming giants in Iceclad and Great Divide, and orcs and ulthork in East Wastes, so that I wouldn't be taking exp hunts away from the folks who like to do Crystal Caverns.

Yup, well, since my bankroll went south a long time ago.....

I now have 7 characters loaded with velium weapons, primarily those that give the most back when you convert them, in case this happens. In the event that it does, I'm gonna use em myself I think. On Prexus the price won't plummet, it will soar. We have greedy people, and you can bet they're going to look at the soure and say "Wow, here's an excuse to gouge tradeskillers by charging 75p+ per stackable piece" And they will do it.

Edit:: Also, in all fairness, velium shouldn't be over 10-20pp per small piece if that goes live.

Edit2:: Oh yeah, Verd, when am I gonna get an original title?

And when the market is glutted (almost immediately) and competition heats up, prices will fall again, to lower than before.

Custom titles are reserved for those who do work of some sort for us, SOE, or for a handful of folks who run other prominent EQ communities or services. They're there primarily to validate that those people are who they say they are.
