My task person in Rivervale told me I was too "experienced" to get tasks from him and sent me to the OT outpost. I did one task that took me into HS, it was not hard and it was fun going to a zone I hadnt been in ages, got a blue of reg exp < I think it was reg, I am almost postive> and 116 pp

I have the found the best way to get started on tasks is to head up to PoK. Task Masters do show up on the FIND button (there is one in the same room as the brew barrel in PoK). Ask any TM 'what tasks?' and if they do not have any appropriate for your level, they will give you a list zones and TMs who do.

If you find at least one <Task Master> they should point you at least to someone who will be able to give out quests for your level range.

Of course, that doesn't mean that you'll even be able to do them.

Example: My 61st Bard got 3 or 4 tasks which required him (on the second step) to head INTO Veeshan's Peak. (!!!) Of course, I /feedback'd that, as it's not soloable to even get the key.

          Tasks too hard

The tasks are way to hard to complete solo so far. I have had tasks to go to Howling Stones, Sebilis and Veeshans Peak. I am only keyed for Howling Stones and could not solo the dark blue mobs at my level. I needed a few other people to help me. After over 5 hours from start to finish I ended up getting 59pp and 1% xp,

Although it was fun going to a different zone than what I'm used too, the task system needs a bit of work to make it more attractive.

I've done a few tasks with my 16 Dark Elf mage. I did them out of EC. So far they havent been too bad. mainly killing in Oasis of Mar. Critters are soloable, but I had a heart attack when I seen the second to last stop was to go into East Freeport to explore an Inn... Dark Elf in E. Freeport.. ya right. Invis is a blessing tho. I got a few plat. plus just under 1 gold for each task.

Lower lvl tasks seem to be doable so far.

Dark elves tend to be fine in East/West Freeport, its only the North Freeport paladins and clerics that are KoS. A DE cleric of Inny actually started with better faction in East/West Freeport than I did as a dwarf paladin of Brell (I know that was true with the guards, I believe it was also true with the legal and illegal coalitions of tradesfolk).

First it sent my druid to kill summoning mobs in Veksar. Since I was not in the mood for a big CR I abandoned that one. I do not do well against summoners. Then it sent me to kill goblins in Droga. At least I think it was sending me that way, the description of where I should go when in Droga was so vague it was impossible to tell where it wanted me to go. Along the way one of the goblins that had never seen through invis before (I did some xping in Droga) saw me and I barely got off an evac before dying, and the evac dropped me off at the feets of another goblin to get clubbed on some more. After barely making it out of there alive I abandoned that task too.

These were the only two tasks the two task people I visited offered me, after hearing of how some people get sent to VP I'm not sure I'm ever going to try these unless I have a group to back me up - and even then I'll avoid anything that takes me to VP as I'm not flagged since that requires killing a frigging dragon with several day respawns that does not get to stay up for long before being killed by the guilded folks on my server. If a druid has trouble with these tasks I wonder how a class worse at soloing could handle it. To a 65th these things are a joke, I imagine they must be nicer for lower levels though and make a nice bonus to people who are grouping and can get the same task for a little xp bonus.

There are 3-4 guards the have task master above their head in Oggok. I can't verify what they do, I don't have OoW yet.

I've had a go at some of the tasks with a variety of characters of different levels.

There appear to be Taskmasters in most starting cities - these aren't always new npc's. In some cases existing npc's have just been labelled as a Task Master. The ones in the starting cities seem to have tasks only suitable for very low level characters (the TM's in Neriak didn't have anything suitable for a level 13 SK). They will give you a list of other Task Masters in other zones to try however. There are task masters in the EC tunnel that my SK could speak to - and my dwarvish paladin ended up talking to an Iksar TM in Overthere - so I think they're fairly faction/race/class neutral - providing you can get to them safely - although out of the four in Overthere, only two of them were actually in the outpost, the other two were out in the zone.

My SK was given a task to speak to some farmer in South Ro. This turned out to be a new NPC in the Dark Elf merchant camp. He wanted me to explore the ruins/temple on the Orc highway in Oasis.

I was put off initially by the four yellow con orcs all standing around a collapsed NPC who I assumed was my target at the ruins. I came back later (tasks don't expire if you log) and found that three of them were now blue. I chanced it and tried to pull one - but got all three blues, so while boney was occupying them I rushed in and hailed the NPC. He must have been for a different task as he told me I'd be better chasing beetles - but on my way past, I got a task updated message - so the task was just to pass through (or near) to a certain point !

The update told me that the trouble was being caused by dessert madmen - and that I had to kill ten of them - which are blue, so this at least seems doable - if somewhat tedious seeing as they're random spawns - but I'm getting good exp killing anything else around while waiting for madmen to pop !

I also took my lvl 29 wizard into the EC tunnel to get a task - all three that were offerred were based in the Lavastorm area, with one starting with the killing of 10 flame goblins in Sol A. Now sending a solo wizard into Sol A doesn't exactly sound like a good idea to me - giving the aggro properties of the mobs in there. I could sit at the entrace and plink away from safety, but flame goblins rarely pop there, so I'd be forced to go much deeper in - probably with quite predictable results.

All the tasks from Overthere are pointing to the Dreadlands - where I've never been to yet, but I'm tempted to take my 53 paladin in there to at least have a look (making sure his LOH is up and he has a Vial of Velium Vapors on his person )

My verdict is on the positive side - some of them are obviously do-able for a solo character, but some obviously aren't - or at least are quite marginal. So I suspect there should be some tweaking involved. I'm going to keep trying them in the anyway to see how it develops

(try getting a group on a UK based server when your main play time is 6am to 10am in the morning *sigh*)

                        hard tasks

I have spent a long time running around a lot of zones finding different taskmasters, but when hailed all of them tell me I have to go to Overthere or Dreadlands. These are the only tasks I can attempt at my level and none of them have been soloable for me.

I have attempted about 20 different tasks from the various Taskmasters in these 2 zones and have not been able to kill any of the mobs solo.

Until they make some adjustments to the system, I guess I will leave them for now.

Maybe its because I'm a monk.

                        Cheers

Aye, the task system is not all that great. I had to kill 10 sentries in veksar. While this wasn't hard, they were light blue and the task gave me 5% xp. Considering it took me about an hour to complete this was less than spectacular. While 5% is a good chunk from a quest, I can solo or group xp faster with less hassle and more money. Still task system is better than the normal generic quests that were in game before, and a step in the right direction.

Finished the task my shadow knight was given.
Took me a while to find 10 madmen - but I did finally manage (after dieing once).
Located the final NPC to talk to in Innothule swap just outside the Feerott entrance. Recieved around 2 and a half plat - and about a whole yellow of experience ! Not too bad for a 13 SK on a newb server.
