Bill Cosby laying it down straight. <3 <3 <3

Forgive me if this post is too off topic, or unwelcome here. But it's late, I'm tired, and this made me smile.

I'm from Iowa. Rural Iowa. ....

But when I first went to college, lo these many years ago, I started at the University of Houston Main campus.

    Talk about a reality shift.

50% of my roommates for 2 years there were "people of color" and were, like me, in the Honors College. (read: SMART) And they told me a couple things.

    1) No matter WHAT I could NOT use the n-word. Ever.

    2) People wearing "it's a black thing (thang) you wouldn't understand" were NOT helping.

    3) There were "good hard working black people, and n's ... just like there are honest friendly white people and Poor White Trash" and I was forced to agree.

Back in grade school someone was supposed to remind us that "you can't judge a book by it's cover" (unless it's one of those romance novels with the buff guy and half-nekkid girl, then go ahead and judge on the cover) weren't they?

It AMAZES me that people to this day regard Tupak as a leader of his community. Um... first he was NEVER a street person. (He went to JULIARD FFS.) Second he made a ton of money exploiting the poorest of the poor. My memories of "Robin Hood" don't involve robbing the poor and then inciting them to kill each other... Maybe it's just me?
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Bill Cosby has always been a "tell it like it is" kind of guy. I can just hear him saying all the things that are quoted in that article. He is EXACTLY the right person to raise this topic. Honestly, a white person couldn't do it. Anyone with a lower profile couldn't do it. The rap stars mostly aren't interested in doing it. And, unlike many celebrities, I think his degree is actually earned rather than honorary. (He has a doctorate in education.)

There are alot of folks of all races who need to take his words to heart and realize that success isn't something people are entitled to, it's something they earn.
