  • Windows XP

I think I have stumbled onto a bug on windows XP. Currently running XP pro SP1 and when I am killing monsters and or tradeskilling I don't think I am increasing skill on failures.

Please help me verify this. I am 99% sure this is the case. Just wondering if anyone can verify this and or duplicate it on XP it should not make a difference if its SP 1 or not but only through searching and duplicating will we find out. I know Win98 works fine you can learn on failures.

    Thank you
    Prosik

Moved this to someplace more fitting.

I'm using Windows XP Home, and I learn on failures.

It's the same software on either OS, so I don't see why XP would make a difference. =)

Also, in case you have not figured it out yet, failure or success on tradeskills or anything like that are all server side. It would be far too easy to exploit if a clientside difference like the OS affected it.

Like Aandaie said, it's all serverside when it comes to those things. About the only thing your OS will affect is how stable EQ is (ie, how crashfull or crashless)

              Server side ok

If this is the case. Then why do all my characters learn faster etc on Windows 98 vs Windows XP. And When I work on trades it takes sometimes three times as long as it does on Windows 98 same trade
just different character. If I swap OS's I get the same results on the character I moved to the other client. There is something to this I swear. Brewing, Tailoring, and Pottery I know for a fact so far I can not learn on failure. I am using Nat. Now since the Win98 box works fine and the WinXP box is not I am ruling out the Nat. I am just stumped now. I can't say my characters are bugged due to the fact that moving them to the win98 box and learning goes swiftly.

              Prosik

Oh and when I run only one client through the nat at once WinXP only I see the same results.

              Any thoughts?

it's just a fluke, and you're being paranoid. All of this info is server-side... your client has nothing to do with it.

Your OS has as much to do with SOE's servers as doing a chicken sacrifice to the Old Ones does.

SOE's servers don't care what your OS is. They don't care what sound card you use. They don't care who manufactures your hard drive. They don't care what MP3s you listen to. They don't care what processor you have. All that matters is where the RNG stops in its lovely little cycle when you hit "Combine".

Incidentally, I'm on XP, and I've noticed NO skillup problems. In fact, from what I gather, my skillup arc from 200 to 250 was pretty swift for someone with only 216 WIS. =)

Am I the only one thinking Prosik should be playing Paranoia instead of EverQuest?

The computer does not approve of such a suggestion.
