  • 'We had it so much harder when I was a newb!'

So how hard did you used to have it? Further back you can remember will most likely be the best story.

Toughest for me would have been metal sheets not stacking. I can remember hunting as a very young druid and spiderling silks not stacking so I'd delete them.

    1) Silks and pelts didn't stack...

    2) To go from Kelethin to Erudin took an entire day without a port (but with SOW).

    3) The "Bazaar" was in East Commons.

    4) Waiting for the boat (great time to get fishing up!), then waiting for the Nexus spires

    5) High level tradeskills required farming or buying from different continents (and look at #2&4 again). Now most of them are in PoK.

    6) When you were low level, if you ran, you didn't out run what you were fighting.

    7) EQ couldn't legally be run in a windowed mode

    8- No cross server tells

    9) EQTraders.com didn't exist (OUCH!!!!!!!!!)

    10) EQAtlas, Allakhazam's, Caster's Realm etc.. didn't exist either

    11) Level 50 was the max

    12) No backstab minimim damage

    13) only 8 bank slots, then only 10 bank slots

    14) Having to risk losing a lot by leaving bags in some corner of GFey, Freeport etc.. to do an equipment transfer

    15) No cultural, then cultural was good, not its not good...

    16) Tradeskills made you good money, even at a skill of 100...

    17) It was "awesome" to have one tradeskill over 100

    18) Burning Rapier was a great weapon,

    19) You could pick pocket magic items

    20) Disarm dropped the weapon during PvP combat, now it puts it on your cursor

    21) Humans were popular, now almost everyone is an Elf

    22) Aqua goblins in Butcherblock didn't yield huge amounts of cash, then they did, now they don't

    23) Guise of the Deceiver wasn't no drop, later disocntinued and became the Mask of Deception

    24) Only Trolls had regen as is

    25) Trolls had a place they could call home (Grobb)

Thats all I can think of off the top of my head..

(But a nice thing was the 'large sewing kit" (now "Delux" and sells for a lot), since it has 10 slots)...

omg....I remember I had 2 mules *just* with sabertooth hides...The day they made those stack, I was so excited, I about jumped out of my skin.

      my additions:

      * Druids could scribe both imbue spells, regardless of whom they worshipped. Now they can't.

(I r one of the lucky ones with both scribed)

      * Clicking combine on any combinable container would make whatever was in them go away, even if they weren't tradeskill components.

      * If you accidentally put stacks in a combinable container, it would combine them - as a single component. (poof! bye bye!)

      * We didn't have collapsible containers.

      * We didn't have geerloks or +% tradeskill gear.

      * You couldn't forage spider/ling silks (wth is up with that?!)

      * Blue diamonds were super scarce and veeeery expensive.

      * We couldn't have more than one tradeskill maxed.

      * Enchanters didn't have JCM.

      * We didn't have a fishing-pole-summoning gadget. Break your pole - buy another one. =P

      * we didn't have a serverwide eqtraders channel for online support and quick-and-dirty answers.

The cupcake is DONE! 1750!!! And 7 Trophies! And a fishing pole! That summons beer! Woo! And Tarteene, the enchanting gnomish tinkerer of the 247th bolt and one neato Tinkering Trophy

skewers took you to 135 smithing and banded sold like nobodies business but wasn't triv till over 135.

blacksmithing was the only tradeskill my weezard did the first time i played the game.

        Maker of Picnics.

Yes, Allakhazam and Baelish (CR) both played on THE One and Only True Server Povar. Name another famous EQ person who used to also play on Povar *excluding Lilosh lol* and get a brownie point!

                    When I was a newb?

My Karana... we didn't even have GEMS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                    Hehehe...

We had to look through a little itty bitty window, with no customizable UI.

Multi GM? Cripes.. i can't even fathom that now!

250 in brewing with a trophy! All other trade skills? /sigh don't ask.

                      - You could drop coins (by accident or on purpose)

                      - There were no links of items in game

                      - You had to look for and loot your corpse from level 1

                      - low level corpses lasted only a very short time (like 30mins to a couple of hours?)

                      - /consent allowed the consented player to loot your corpse

                      - when the bazaar first went live, rogues could pickpocker traders on the PvP servers

                      - there were no AA abilities

                      - no KEI or Aego/Virtue, C2 and Herosim were the best buffs available

                      - no PoTC/PoTg/PoT9 druid buffs

                      - no Beastlords

                      - no VahShir

                      - no playable Froglok race

                      - gnomes could not be Pallies or SKs

                      - no cleric hammers or Hammer pets, no wizard sword of Xuzl, no swarm pets

                      - all those "Ranger down!" jokes were a reflection of what really happened in the game

                      - no CTRL or SHIFT click to pick up items or stacks

                      - when picking up one coin or one item from a stack you had to use the slider bar, there was no box to manually key in the #

                      - you had to buy stackable items (like food) one by one (no buying by the stack)

                      - Manastones used to drop

..that's all I can think of for now...

and where the fooey can you 'forage' spider/ling silks???

                        hm... as a noob... i don't think i count.

scribing low level spells took FOREVER.
memming them took equally as long.

For a while, I had only the base EQ as downloaded from the site. I was 'determined' to get as far as I could in the game before 'being forced' to buy Gold (everything to PoP; I only started playing in Nov 2002). I think I got to... a monk lvl 14 and a druid lvl ... 12? before I broke down and bought the big gold box from Best Buy in January ("Christmas present", uh huh). THUS: I remember the boat ^_^ and finding that there was a downstairs to the boat, and if you did it just right, you could warp through the floorboard of the boat and end up topside again.

                          - /consent allowed the consented player to loot your corpse
Yeah, we had a problem with that one long ago.

A player had made an evil, Qeynos type character. He then suckered people into "coming down to help kill something for a quest".

Well anybody who has seen the Qeynos sewers knows it's pretty easy to get lost in there. And our noble guildmate (a barb shaman) was brought down there to help this person.

He led the shaman back towards the evil guild area and "SPLAT!" goes the shaman. Of course the human was not KoS, so perfectly fine.

Well the shaman has no idea how to get his body after all those twists and turns and secret walls. So when the person says "Hey, I'll drag you to zoneline, consent me" that's exactly what he did.

Well, the person looted everything off his body and loged out. He never did get his stuff back, despite e-mails to GM and petitions. I don't remember what level he was, maybe around 30 at most. I know he was most upset about the +6 wis rings he had just bought and the shaman quested armor he had been working on.

That's one thing that definately needed changing.
