Cryptic post here: sounds like you need some broad advice, but I'll do what I can.

Smithing is a rare skill in that there are 3 different stats that control skillups: wisdom (for priest classes), intelligence (pure casters) or strength (everyone else). From the 'shaman buffs' you refer to, I'll assume you're trying to max out your strength, and the AA you'll need to look into is planar power. This is a POP specific skill that you need to be level 61+ to use: It costs 3 AA per level, and can be trained once per level from 61 onward, giving you a maximum strength at 65 of 355. Get your strength as high as you can to get the best chance at quick improves.

As for your route, there are several viable options from 188 onward:

    1. Shadowscream armor
This is the cheapest route. It involves camping for components for literally hundreds of hours of play time, but if you're a patient player, it is certainly a viable option.

    2. LDoN Plate
Also a fairly cheap route, assuming you don't buy all your tempers in bazaar for outlandish prices. If you don't get enough components in your own dungeon crawls, you may want to windowshop in Bazaar and wait for a good deal. LDoN Plate trivs at 212 I believe.

    3. Acrylia Armor
Generally a quite expensive route. Even if you farm all your own acrylia, you still need 2 windstones per temper. If you're made of money though, this may be your speediest route.

I know I'm forgetting something. Mistletoe cutting sickles are an option, but unless you've got unlimited funds, and by that I mean the loss of 100k is no big deal, forget it.

In any case, I highly recommend Zeralenn's "The Economical Smith" Guide . It's an very good resource for smiths.

Good luck smithing! May you be one of the proud and few who make 250.
