friend of mien is getting amrried but can't find a robe that a barbarian beastlord can wear. any ideas where to make one or get one for her?

  • #2
I'm pretty sure barbarians don't have a robe graphic in the game so even if they can find a robe they can wear it will appear as leather armor instead of a robe.

One of the most popular choices for wedding wear was Shainai's Nightie that dropped from the little kitty in Shar Vahl. I have heard it has been removed from her drop table though. It was an All/All robe but wouldn't show on races that don't have robe graphics.

You might consider using an All/All robe and a Human (or other race) Illusion potion if it's important that she is dressed properly.

The nighty still drops, but as mentione before Barbarians do not have a robe graphic so it won't show for them. Sorry.

are you sure the illusion potion will work? i just spent an hour getting a group ready to kill that gnoem druid in oot for his "claimed" bst wearable robe and got it but ti isn't wearable. shade silk comes to mind as well as a burynai gi and wu shirt.

The potions won't allow you to wear equipment that you normally can't wear.

You will still need to find a robe that is wearable by a barbarian beastlord. Once you do it will look like a robe if you change into a race that has robe graphics. It will always look like leather or cloth in your natural form.

The problem here is SOE, in an interest in saving resources, didn't design robe graphics for races that don't have pure casters (Vah Shir, Trolls, Ogres, Barbarians) so there is no way the game can display what it doesn't have.

The Shade Silk robe is "All/All", and can be dyed from it's usual dark grey colour to any shade you want. (My dark elf warrior liked to wear one in highly populated zones like the Overthere or Dreadlands -- When people begged to know what it was I told them it came from deep inside Acrylia Caverns and there were only two or three on the entire server.)

As other folks have mentioned here, if your race is not able to be a robe-wearing class then you will not have a robe graphic and will look like you are wearing a cloth shirt instead.

It always seemed wrong that Wood elves didn't have a robe graphic since they use exactly the same models as dark elves who do, but this is EQ. If you enjoy Everquest or Sausages, it is best not to know how they work inside.

My suggestion is to do gold or silver smithed chain. The last wedding I went to (woodie ranger and halfie ranger), neither could wear robes. So they had gold smithed chain suits (legs, arms, bracers, boots and bp) made just for the wedding.

Now with dyes, you could just dye whatever you're wearing to match the spouse.

one is a barbarian bst and the other is a cleric so the chain look is out for the bst. any other ideas?

maybe we could petition soe to make wedding armor since they are happening so much now. wouldn't you liek to see a ringmail or steel tuxedo? ehheeh

um um um...what about something like crystal chit? I have no idea if that either BST or barbie wearable, but what about something weird like that? (I know crystal chit is expensive but you might be able to round up enough pieces borrowing from folks)...

Well, this has definitley wandered out of the realm of tailoring, so I'm booting it to OOC.

Going back to the question about the wedding. Unless a robe is required by the bride and groom, I say skip it. Ive been to a few weddings and what everyone usually did was just wear what they considered their "Formal armor". Some people I knew even kept a set of formal armor in the bank for such occasions. Oh yeah, have everyone remove their weapons, shields, and helms out of respect for the event.

P.S. Dont forget to bring pleanty of booze and cake!

Farnyr is right. It's pretty hard to get some races and classes into robes so finding some formal looking armor is probably your best and only choice.

Being a Kitty myself I used to keep a set of Loda Kai armor on hand for performing my shamanly duties. Very dignified looking and easy to obtain. Now you have all the options you can afford. Armor dyes have ruined the fashion market but they are handy for things like this.

He's also right about the booze and cake

i still have a full set of the gold 30ish cleric quest armor in the bank. before dyes, i broke that out to perform or attend wedding ceremonies. and, since i have the honor of performing yet another in the near future, i think i'll break the stuff out yet again (and remove dyes for the gold look) since about half my current outfit is chain graphic
removing helms, weapons, shields is standard practice, but i sort of cheat on that, since i just toss in a priest + paladin only stein that is actually a (crappy) blugeoning weapon. unless performing ceremonies, then it's the open book look
and booze and cake is a must...mages help a lot in this bit if ya don't have anyone planning on baking/brewing. personally, i enjoy bringing odd snacks while others grab the more usual fare. (ldon fished recipes were my last attempt. they sounded formal enough)

If your race doesn't get pure INT casters your race (in the new Luclin models) will NEVER get a chest armor graphic by wearing a robe. Never. Period. I have tried repeatedly. Nor will dye and equipment work, as if there is no armor graphic on a location they "dye" tint is not displayed either.

                              Example:

I am a DE enchanter. My wife is a Halfling druid.

If I use illusion: Halfling to make myself appear as a Halfling in the OLD models my robe appears as a dark blue chest armor. (Insidious Robe, "I went to Plane of Hate 34 times and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.")

                              Turn on new halfling models.

Now illusion: Halfling and my chest looks like the "nekkid newbie" display. Take off robe and put back on. Still nekkid. Dye the armor location blue to match robe tint. Still nekkid. Armor off and back on, still nekkid.

So for family portraits we just have to have different races or she has to be a dark elf. (Because dark elves, while they can't be druids, can wear leather armors.)

As a former guide I can tell you the best "guide toon" is the Human Ranger of Karana. Because you can 1) wear robes, and 2) track, and 3) use tracking filters.

Having officiated at a number of weddings here's my advice.

Each of you wear your "sunday best" matched armor. (of dyed in the advent of LoY dyes)

Or get married nekkid. Some roleplaying reasons, pagan theology, etc etc. Just make sure you aren't in a dangerous place for the wedding. (Why some people get married in dangerous places I'll never know.)
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.
