  • Vendor-purchasable, long-lasting foods/drinks

So what long-lasting foods and drinks are sold by vendors? Most everything you see is just "a meal" or "a drink". What else is better than that? I'll start off:

Fizzlecutter Formula 5000 -- enduring drink sold by Ping Fizzlecutter in West Freeport newbie area. About a plat each if I remember correctly.

I believe that Elven Trail Mix, which is a Hearty Meal

    http://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?item=17762

is normally available in Kelethin, in addition to being the reward of a faction quest in Firiona Vie.

I know it's not vendor sold but just as good. I usually pick up patty melts in the baz for 1p each

Iron Rations = duration 25 (relative duration) costs about 1.5 gold

Fish Rolls = duration 35 (batwing + fresh fish, baking trivial = 135)
costs about 2 silver an attempt

Misty Thicket Picnic = duration 120, runs about 7pp in the bazaar.

Water Flask = duration 15 costs about a silver

Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 = duration 60, haven't priced (GM brewer I use water or QAT) but probably same as Iron Rations

Qeynos Afternoon Tea = duration 85, prices vary in bazaar

        Cheap and Fast=
        Water Flask and Iron Rations

        Cheaper and a little slower=
        Water Flask and Fish Rolls

        Longest Lasting=
QAT and MTP (and has decent stats)

There is a thread on food duration in Baking forum, shouldn't be too hard to "search" and find it. (I copied the main list and pasted it into a .txt file for reference)

Discussions of "what food/drink is best to carry" border on the metaphysical.

Also, Iron Rations have the same relative duration (25) as Elven Trail Mix.
In My (Not Always) Humble Opinion, except where I quote someone. If I don't know I say so.
I suck at this game, your mileage WILL vary. My path is probably NON-optimal.

Yeah, I know there are a lot of extended duration foods which can be made, but I was wondering about things I could buy. Many times I'm far from the bazaar and was wondering if there were foods and drinks scattered about the world which I could buy if necessary.

Haggle Baron Dry`din in Chardok has some nice long duration food / drink items. (Deep Cavern Toadstool, Louie's Thick & Hearty) However, shopping from him can be tricky.

I thought my reply was sufficiently plain. Let me clarify

water flasks and iron rations are the BEST commonly available storebought food and drink for duration

If you can "stock up" on Fuzzlecutter Formula 5000 (storebought, but only from a single vendor in a zone where some folks are KOS) and Fish Rolls (the absolute simplest baking combine in history, as all the components are storebought as well) they last a little longer.

Given that "shared bank space" and "shared plat" are now BOTH live I can't think of a single possible reason to NOT have plenty of storage space for food and drink. And to have at least one character PERMANENTLY parked in the Bazaar.

Step 1) Place 2 empty Deluxe Toolboxes in "shared bank space" (or if you want, fill with stuff to sell in Bazaar)

Step 2) Place money in "shared plat" slot. Might as well put it all there, since there's no reason not to.

Step 3) Make a mule. (High CHA is all you care about, so a High Elf Enchanter with maxxed CHA is your best bet.)

Step 4) Take PoK book up.

Step 5) Buy a bank vault FULL (16) of Deluxe Toolboxes and 3 for general inventory. (Cost about 20 - 30 plat)

              Step 6) Take Nexus stone.

              Step 7) Enter Bazaar.

Step 8) Buy 5 Traders Satchels. (cost under 10 plat)

Step 9) Buy MTP / QAT / HMP / Liquidized Meat in whatever quantities you desire.

Step 10) Fill Deluxe Toolboxes in bank vault with food.

Step 11) Place 2 Deluxe Toolboxes full of food in "shared bank space" getting the "empty" ones in return.

Now you can have a virtually UNLIMITED amount of high duration food / drink available at your nearest bank. (Is there anyone who ISN'T bound in or near a bank? Well, perhaps not Wizards and Druids, but Grimling ports you in 50 feet from a bank so they doesn't count)

Don't have PoP? Substitute "Iceclad Ocean" for buying Deluxe Toolboxes.

Don't have Luclin? Ouch. Well then park your mule in any major town next to the Iron Rations vendor.

I'm failing to see how this is a problem. Six months ago, yeah you needed a good friend or 2 computers and 2 accounts to really do this. Now it's trivial.

I nearly ran out of food the other day. I had been sitting on my drogmar for nearly 14 HOURS real time. I had used up my 50-odd water flasks. 750 minutes duration (duration numbers, relative are equal to minutes on a mount for me) or so. (I have a spare stack of water/rations in the bank so I can grab a few of each whenever I die so I don't get "out of food/drink" spam.)

I generally carry 2 stacks of water flasks and 2 stacks of iron rations for general consumption. Then I have 10 MTP and 10 QAT that I use for extra stats when/if I need them. (Generally when I do tradeskills and have to swap out for a geerlok.) Once my wife gets her baking twink working on MTP I'll probably switch over and just use MTP/QAT and swap in "Holy Cakes" if I need resists.

Seriously. If you want to walk into the convience store and buy a can of Pringles for $1.99 and 20 oz. soda for $1.09 just to be quick you want Water Flasks and Iron Rations. You will TRIP over the vendors they are so common. But if you walk the extra quarter mile and spend 30 minutes instead of 2 you can get Pringles for $1.19 and 144 oz. of soda (12 pack) for $2.50 (4 for $10) by visiting your local Bazaar and shopping from your local tradeskiller. (Wait, this is the TRADESKILLS boards... people here are interested in selling their wares. Odd that.)

I'll apologize for my tone, a little. But your post made it seem like I didn't answer your EXACT question.

So what long-lasting foods and drinks are sold by vendors? Most everything you see is just "a meal" or "a drink". What else is better than that?
              To which I replied...

Iron Rations = duration 25 (relative duration) costs about 1.5 gold
Which is, to the best of my knowledge, the longest duration storebought food commonly available.

Come to think of it.... I'm being silly myself. Why I'm carrying around Iron Rations when I have a 135 baking skill I don't know. The two vendors closest to the "iron rations" vendor in PoK I've been using one sells batwings... the other fish. *smacks forehead*

*runs off to make a few bags of Fish Rolls*

after skilling up on fish rolls i had 3 stacks on every character i own and gave 5 stacks to a frined for his characters. patty melts and i gave stacks away to random ppl and still have 5 or more stacks for myself on my main and gave a bunch to the same friend who after maybe 5 or 6 weeks is just now out of fish rolls. i also gave him the backpack of skull ale i had extra. the first backpack i split between friends. stuff is dirt cheap. he will be drunk for a long time and fed too.

Yes Itek, I understand that extended duration food and drinks can be made. And I understand that they can be conviently bought in the bazaar. And I understand how to both make them and buy them. However, I was wondering about extended duration foods and drinks which can be purchased from vendors. So far we have:

                  Fizzlecutter Formula 5000
                  Elven Trail Mix
                  Iron Rations
                  Deep Cavern Toadstool
                  Louie's Thick & Hearty

                  Anymore than that?

This thread in the baking forum labeled "Food and Drink Durations" lists pretty much everything you could want to know about that sort of thing

Search is a wonderful message board feature
note that the list doesnt differentiate between store bought and player made but the new database site should make that part pretty simple

                      /sigh

                      Poor guy.

He's just making a list of food and drinks that are a) Vendor Bought and b) of longer duration a meal or a drink.

Anyway, I think I have seen Honey Berry Pie on Rebecca Cabbageleaf. I would have to go down to Fungus Grove and check some time in the future.

As for compiling a list, the thread linked by Laureana does have such a list, no need to compile another one.

Ex: from my memory & the list in that thread, I know that if the Othmir like you, you can get Clam Cakes and Bladders of Otter Milk in CS.

Forgive me for saying so, but somehow there's just something icky about drinking the milk of another human-level intelligent mammal.

And there's something even ickier about them selling it heh.

No wonder the tailors don't mind killing them

I think I'll have to try this again. The database does not contain many of the purchasable foods so that was no help.
