  • LDoN Spells and such

I think I want to get the new expansion, but at the moment, I can not afford it. But, from things I have read, it makes me think twice.

Ok, you get new tradeskill recipies. Will the items needed for the recipies be restricted to drops or forages from the new zones?

Augmentation devices- are they no drop(haven't seen anything saying specifically, except for the item it is attached to) and if it is and you get one that doesn't work with anything you have, would you hold onto it in the hopes you will find something you can put it on? Or, would you destroy it and call it useless loot, kind of like tattered sandals?

You get to earn reward points. Yay! Maybe. You get to buy cool new toys with your points, and even have the ability to save them up. If you are a caster, are your new toys going to be items, or that new spell that you can only get by spending your points on it?

You also need to have a group of at least 4 people to get in. My guild rarely has that many people on, in the same range level, in any given time. I would forever be LFG in PoK for a group to go on a dungeon crawl in LDoN.

I am not complaining, mind you, just musing on whether I really should get the expansion when I get the funds.

I'm in beta, but I'm only answering things that I've seen answered already by Sony employees in interviews on various websites, so I'm sure this is okay...

Darn it, that's one they haven't covered (in any interview I've seen) so I can't answer.

They are NO DROP. They drop of mobs in the dungeons, are found in chests in the dungeons, and are sold by the adventure merchants. Much (if not all) existing equipment in the game will be given augmentation slots.

Absor has said that the new spells will be on adventure merchants (the ones you spend adventure points with).

Unless you dispise pickup groups, you are not going to have any problems getting into the dungeons. Anyways, all us tradeskillers have huge /friend lists, right?

    LDoN is teh r0x0rz.

Yep. He did. But like I said, you're gonna have to decide whaich you want more, the items or the spells. No spending of plat for them.

Not that I despise pick up groups, I just don't want to get into one that I am not going to want to stay in halfway through the dungeon. And most of the people I know are all of a higher level than I am right now.

Another note, too. Looking at the chest thing, from what I remember reading, you are going to need to have a specific class with you that can either pick the lock, or be able to bash it open, with possible consequences. What happens if you get a group missing either one of those classes? Are you just sol on getting the items that were in the chest?

Well, there are 14 (right?) classes in EverQuest, and 6 of them have the ability to disarm potention traps on chests, so the likelyhood that you wont have one of these classes with you is small.

If that *does* happen... I guess you just bash it open and hope you don't die.

I am not happy with the chests so far (risk vs. reward issues), actually. I *think* the problems that I have with them are bugs, but if they're not... it kind of sucks. However, that doesn't even come close to negating the awesomeness of LDoN.

Not all augments are NO DROP-and only augmenting with a NO DROP changes a droppable to non-droppable.

Absor has repeatedly stated that, for the first little while, All Augmentations will be NO DROP.

I'm thinking this is similar to charms. One day, In the far future, we might see a droppable charm. Or a droppable Aug.

Oh, and now that the NDA is lifted, I can confirm that the new recipes (Smithing and JC, to be certian), all use on Drop/Forage from the new zones.

However, it's tradeable, so who knows.

Anyone can bash open a chest. All you do is target it and hit attack.

This was the only way we got chests open during my beta stint. I only got the opportunity to examine one chest, but despite the fact that I was playing a rogue with, iirc, max lockpick skill and mechanical lockpicks (+5% lockpick), I STILL couldn't open the chest. So everyone targeted it and we hit it until we could open it.

And then we found that there was nothing inside, so it didn't much matter anyway...
