  • Before you sigh up with SBC DSL....

My ISP is South. California SBC DSL. During 4pm pst - 1 am pst, I have not been able to stay in game for more than 10 min in the last 10 days. If you are considering switching to SBC DSL, you have been warned.

Here is a thread containing the screaming and moaning from other SBC customers like me. It's 17 pages long and growing.
    http://www.dslreports.com/forum/rema...e=flat;start=0

    For myself, the fact is:
During 4pm pst to 1am pst in the last 10 days,
    (1) pinging my first hop is 75ms instead of the normal 15ms, that's 5 times slower
    (2) upload speed is 5 - 30 kbps instead of the normal 128 kbps, that's less than half the speed of a 56k modem
    (3) Intermittent connectivity: I have never been able to stay in EQ for more than 10 min.

Sigh.... I am using Earthlink dial up now.

Before this turns into a rant about the qualities of vatious providers of DSL or boradband communications, or further ranting about this one in particular, please take any service issues with your provider to your provider, and not to EQ Traders.

This friendly reminder brought to you by the letter A and the number 3.

If the connection issues started since the last patch, and you use WinXP, then there is a possible conflict with the Quality of Service feature in XP and EQ.

        for WinXP....
        Start
        Settings
        Control Panel
        Network Connections
right click on the connection to the internet you normally use and look for the checkbox with QOS, uncheck it.
        save/apply
        reconnect to the internet.

If you have a char that goes LD every time you zone, it is possibly a corrupted character journal file. There are 2 files per character. For example, for saleani, the files will be CJ_saleani_65.hdr and CJ_saleani_65.txt. 65 represents Luclin. If one of the files is 0 length, it is possible that it is corrupted, make a copy and save it to another directory. Delete or rename (I usually put a Z infront of file names to get them out of the way, they are not gone if you need them back, but now sort to the bottom of the directory) the files and get back into EQ.

Are you using a DSL router? I had the exact same problem with my Linksys cable router -- LDing every 10 minutes.

If you are using a router, you need to configure your router specifically for EQ. If you go to the support section on the Everquest main site, search the knowledge base, and type "router" into the search box, you will see a variety of things you can do to help get your router to work and play nicely with Everquest.
