    Select Marketplace

    Some people love the marketplace forums... However, I agree the overhead might cause this board problems.

    Can the board be setup to add an option field to select[list][*]No Marketplace forums (default)[*]Single Server Marketplace (selected with a dropdown list)[*]All Marketplace forums[/list:u]This is the have your cake and eat it too option.

    What I posted here is now null and void so I am removing it since they have come up with a very good solution
    There is a Search feature so use it!

      Wow that's pretty sweet. Any chance it's possible to change the index link to have them minimized, like the second link?

        Posibly. But I don't think I am going to do that. It would cause alot of confusion.

        What I am looking inot is subboards though which will cram the marketplace off to a side. (You will see it when/if I make that change... it is a complex one)

          The main reason I made my suggestion was there are four types of need for the market place here.[list=1][*]People who already use another forum on the web[*]People who don't care about the marketplace[*]People who play on one server only[*]People who want everything for whatever reason.[/list]I am a type 3 person and would only list the Saryrn server if I had the option and would save the bandwidth for all the other servers.

            That's pretty slick, going by the section header links.

            Do we know if it makes a difference in the areas we need to see?

            I think the problem is the sheer number of hits on the database that cause the errors, when the "fix" is enabled for correctly tracking what you've read. By collapsing the other areas, do you actually stop phpBB from sending the data to the database ( doing lookups on the "invisible" forums )? It SHOULD... but I can see how that might have been over looked.

            It's a bit more of a pain to make 3 - 4 bookmarks ( one for each header except Marketplace, and a direct link to my server for that one ) and have to flip between them... but if the tradeoff is I get to have messgae tracking work correctly and the system doesn't crash... and there's no major revision work that needs to be done by DenMom and House Ogre... well that's well worth it!

              Well, I made the "Sub board" change today. Hopefully that will help. But I am Not sure that the "read topics" change is compatible... or if it would properly "ignore" the other thread when checking for new. So for now I am NOT adding the "read topic" change.

                Love the subboards Ngreth.


                Very nice, very unobtrusive. To the point it took me a second realize why the page loaded so much faster (and to me it was noticable).
