  • A slightly different appreciation.

Denmother gets a lot of appreciation (though certainly never enough) for her efforts in starting and maintaining this web site. I haven't seen anything in quite a while about one of her other major accomplishments, so...

What got me thinking about this was coming back here after an absence and learning that there is now a vendorable way to get tailoring to skill 66. That was something I never expected to see.

Anyway... I've never been a GM at anything but I've been frequenting these boards since back when the list of tradeskillers and what they wanted to buy or sell was hard-coded on the site - if you wanted to add your name, you e-mailed the DenMother (if I'm remembering correctly) and she changed the page.

I can remember playing on the Tunare server and hearing someone ooc in GFay "looking for a 200+ tailor" - and knowing that there was only one person on earth who fit that description.

And I can very clearly remember the day when denmother (rather obliquely) let us know that she had reached 250 skill in tailoring.

Tailoring is still very, very hard to GM - it's a major accomplishment for anyone; but, before Crystalline silk - before Wu's, there was (again, if I remember correctly) NOTHING between 115 and 250 (or close to it).

I don't have any appropriate adjectives. It is mind-boggling to me the amount of effort that it must have taken for her to achieve that goal.

In these days of the 1750 club, it's easy to forget some of the pioneering efforts in tradeskills. This one in particular, though, might well deserve a nomination as the single greatest achievement in the game.

That's all. I just thought this was one thing that we all should remember every once in a while.

Oh my, you HAVE been around a while, if you remember when the Marketplace was a bunch of static pages that I maintained by hand!

Thanks for the kudos. I've left the pioneering to others these days, as after getting GMs in pretty much everything but tinkering (179-ish), make poison (60 before I scrapped the rogue) and alchemy (196 and holding), there's no way I want to do it all again on a single character (it is spread across two accounts) just for "bragging rights" in the 1750 club.

Just make sure as all you folks progess in your skills that you leave a comfy, fur-lined spot free in your packs for a tired Mum to nest in!
