  • Denmon - Some feedback about tradeskill drops in PoFire

    Hello Denmom,
I don't often post here but I do read the site quite a bit. I understand that you are sometimes able to pass along feedback to the developers about tradeskills. Was hoping to bring something to your attention and hopefully to SoE's in hopes of getting it changed. I have used the /feedback option in game several times in regards to this issue and also discussed it with a GM, just hoping that bringing it to the community's attention might help.

I'm a 1750 tradeskiller. I dabble in all tradeskills and also do most of the combines for my guild. We are in PoTime now and have been in the elementals since January. In general, I am very happy with the implementation of tradeskills in PoP. The drops seem rare but not too rare and the items are of excellent quality. However, there are a few issues with drops that seem out of line. Note that I am not complaining about the rarity of PoP tradeskill items in general, I think it's mostly appropriate considering the quality of the items, I only wish to bring to your attention a few items that seem out of line with the rest of PoP tradeskills.

    1. Plane of Fire - A short description of plane of Fire so you can understand the issues.

    a. There is an initial field of roaming mobs. These mobs are about as difficult as your average PoV mob. A few random 1 group named.
    b. First castle. Mostly for exp groups. Mobs hit for 700's. 1 raid level named and a few single group named.
    c. Second field. Multiple raid level named. Few group level named. Generic mobs hit for the 1000's.
    d. Second castle. Mob's hitting for 1k plus. Not generally used for exp other than kiters.
    e. Fennin bridge. Usually no mobs unless Fennin event trigger is killed in which case the bridge is populated with raid level mobs up to and including Fennin in his castle at the end.

Issue 1 - Eye of Eternal Fire. This item is used for making the Molten Ring of Incineration. It only drops from Phoenix model mobs. There are 4 Phoenix model mobs in PoFire. the first two are raid level named guarding the path from the 1st castle to the 2nd field. The third is a raid level named in a lava tunnel off of the 2nd field. The fourth is a raid level named that spawns on the Fennin bridge as part of the Fennin Ro event. Therefore, this item can only drop from four mobs that are up once about every three days and require a raid to kill. This seems somewhat out of line with the rest of PoP drops. On my server, a total of ONE eye of eternal fire has dropped in 6 months of elemental access.

Possible Solution - The fire horses in the 1st and 2nd fields don't seem to have any significant drops. Perhaps add the eye to their loot table as a rare drop.

Issue 2 - Fiend Gut. This item is used in making the Obsidianwood Compound Bow. Each bow requires 2 fiend guts. It drops from Fiend (demon) model mobs. There are approximately 13 of these mobs in PoFire. 1 is Blazzax the Omnifiend. This is a raid level named that roams the 2nd field. Blazzax is tougher than Fennin (Blazzax is tougher than most of the other named combined to be honest) and is rarely killed. 6 are generic fiend mobs that spawn during the Fennin event. These are raid level mobs. 4 are named lords that spawn during the Fennin event. In summary, 13 total raid level mobs each 3 days for an item you need two of to make an attempt. Again, this seems out of line with other PoP drops.

Possible solution - Make fiend guts a rare drop from the fire horses models that roam both 1st and 2nd fields. Another possible solution is to make the fire bow string the result of combining two fire arachnid silks (similar to Ponightmare bow or PoAir bow). The drop rate of bow staves would then need to be significantly decreased to make sure the bows don't flood the market.

Issue 3 - Solidified Magma / Portions of Metallic Substance. These are required for Pottery and Blacksmithing respectively. They drop from lava golem style mobs. There is 1 raid level named and multiple single group generic mobs that roam the second field that can drop these items. However, the 2nd field is relatively difficult to exp in. Because multiple raid level named roam there and because the mobs are generally quite a bit tougher than most single group mobs (triple hits for 1k and rampage), the difficulty of getting these items is quite a bit higher than any other similar tradeskill drop (with the exception of the above two issues). It is not impossible to exp on these mobs or to farm them, but the relative risk is extremely high when compared to similar drops. Drop rate is fine, it's just the possibility of actually fighting the mobs which is out of line.

Possible solution - Add roaming golem style mobs to the 1st field. Another possible solution is to add both of these drops to the Fire Lord mobs (fire elemental mobs) that roam both the 1st and 2nd fields.

Thanks again for listening and for anything you can do to bring this to SoE's attention.

    Sunmina,

While I appreciate the time you took to do a detailed writeup, there is little I, personally, can/will do about this.

Unfortunately, there are too many folks who want me to intercede on behalf of their own major concerns, and/or folks who feel these forums are the way they should be trying to get SoE's attention.

I can't go there or do that, nor can I turn my boards into a "Dear SoE" sort of area.

My Dev contacts rely on me to corner them only when something with tradeskills is badly broken - quests that don't work, recipes that are DNC or incorrect yields, etc. For me to bring more to their attention adds too much signal-to-noise and means that some issues may get lost in the shuffle.

Sorry if the wording on this is overly negative, this is NOT all directed at you, personally. {wry smile} We have several folks trying to repeatedly beat dead horses and start "petitions" here even after me saying "NO", others PMing me and wanting me to get x, y, z "fixed" to their vision of what it should be, etc., so I'm sorta using your post as another nudge to folks that this isn't SoE, and that if they want stuff fixed *they* have to feedback directly to SoE, not to me.

I *do* appreciate that the issues with that zone make it hard to tradeskill, and hope you can take this well-written missive and present it to them on their boards. It's something they should hear, but without me starting a dangerous precendent of Mum-in-the-Middle that suddenly has me flooded with similar requests.
