  • Bug with "Mark all topics read"

I've been coming to the boards less and less because it seems like there's less and less activity. Call me slow, but I only just figured out what it is. I go to the Tailoring forum first, read whatever's new, click the "Mark All Topics Read" link, and then move on to Smithing or other forums. Those other forums seem to have very little activity because that link marks ALL topics read -- even ones that aren't in the forum being viewed at the time.

Since this isn't the way ezboards works, it took me forever to figure it out. But I came here to the denmom's forum to post, and sure enough, there are posts from yesterday and over the weekend that don't appear as new to me, even though it's probably been weeks since I've viewed this particular forum.

If it's a software limitation that's cool, nothing you can do about it. But it would be very very good to rename the link so we understand that every dang thing on the bbs is going to lose its "New" tags if we click "Mark as read".

it is a "Feature" of the software.

It will sometimes mark all topics read based on your cookies, when you post, when you read, when the man on the moon sneazes... basically when it wants too :/

It is the 2nd bigest issue I have with the BB software :/ (the first being its ability to handle large loads)

Thanks for responding. I'll just learn to look at last post dates instead of the friendly little icon, and stop clicking that button. =)

Are you using a custom version of the phpbb or will the mark as red stuff all be the same as in the standard release of the code?

the mark as read is standard code :/

My Computer at work works properly... as long as I keep the browser window open, it tracks what I have read (it resets as soon as I close)

At Home (all computers at home) It is random when it sudenly marks things as read :/

I've only had trouble if I switch computers or browsers without sufficient time for my session cookies to expire/timeout, or if something goes wonky with your server. Other times, I have no trouble with things I haven't read staying marked as unread.

Like this afternoon, there were several times that your HTTP server stopped responding (IP connectivity was up with low ping times, but no connecting via HTTP request by me or uptime.netcraft.com). When I was active during these periods, after the server came back online, my unread flags were wiped.
