  • A Modest Proposal

I'm wondering if adding a new forum for the discussion of spell research might be useful at this time?

With two wisdom casters and a intelligence caster who may be able to research spells for them in the future, my interest in spell research has suddenly increased. (Not to mention the new tailoring options available to intelligence casters as well.)

The Mythiran Tower at http://mythiran.allakhazam.com/ is recommended on the EQ Traders Learn A Skill page. It's a very nice web site, but it looks like it hasn't been updated in two years.

I don't know how hard it is to add new forums or if there's a limit on how many forums this site can maintain. But if it is possible, perhaps you could put up a temporary spell research forum as an experiment to see how much traffic it receives?

No, Jonathan, We will not eat our children to avoid famine!!
(Sorry, Look up the original "A Modest Proposal" to get that joke)

Anyway, It appears that Absor has dubbed Research an Official "Tradeskill", so I can see where it might have it's place here.

I for one, would LOVE to see the Standard EQTC Organizing skills put to research, and would LOVE it to have an active research forum.

    BUT

I can also see where the Denmother and other people involved have their hands full with LoY, the Database, and Karana-knows what else.

So as much as I would LOVE to see it, I doubt it will be soon. *frown*

Ah, what a "swift" answer, Lilosh. 8)

Yes, Denmom doesn't need any more work and I'm pretty sure that adding another forum is not trivial even at her skill level.

For one thing, I believe a moderator would be needed.

I just wanted to throw out the idea for discussion. Maybe someone can point out some alternative web sites/message boards for spell research.

Has info on Int caster research. Unfortunutly Belish has not really done much in the way of cleaning up the old tables on research. (The info is there for the old research but some of the tables are a little jumbled) I think its probably the easiest to read research forum out there. [/url]

Thanks for reminding me that I need to drop a link to Casters Realm and Mythiran Tower on the new spell research page I put up this morning.

Even the mere thought of backtracking to cover all of the pre-LoY spell research stuff right now is enough to make me want to go fetal, especially with everything else going on.

{shivershudder} If folks can think of other links that I can point folks to for now, that'd be a "happy thing".

And yes, Lilosh, that's exactly what I thought of when I read the topic title *grin*

You may be thinking of the movie with Robert Redford and Demi Moore.

It comforts me to know that so many other well read individuals play EQ. When I bother to listen to the OOC Chat and read the names of some of the d00dS out there, I wonder if I am trapped in a world of teen angst.

I think the links are a great solution, Denmom. No reason to burden yourself with more work! Thanks for all that you do!

Heh, it's been many a year since I last read that, as time goes by age tends to jumble things.

                    *shrug*

Thanks for the correction, I was getting them confused =)

                      Comments on spell research

While sympathizing with Denmom's reluctance to be drawn into yet another expansion of EQTC's coverage, I nevertheless add my vote for having at least a forum to cover Spell Research. Even before my Enchanter turned 16, I got excited and went looking for info on spell research. Compared to what I had become accustomed to for trade skills on EQTC, the stuff on the various caster websites is primitive, not very organized, and not very well maintained.

Furthermore, it seems that there is some new news even about the old spell research. Today, my Enchanter found that with a research skill of 21, all the combines for level 16 research spells were trivial. My guess is that along with the new spell research VI changed the trivials on the old research combines.

Finally, I would be very happy to volunteer time to do anything that would be useful to facilitate coverage of Spell Research on EQTC. You can reach me at Harzel@attbi.com
