Since the whole "new since your last timestamp" thing doesn't work very well, can we just scrap it all together? I know denmom has said that, due to the way she reads the boards, this creates alot of extra work for her.
Why not, rather than track Timestamp, or (the better, but apparently bad on the server way of doing it) tracking individual's specific posts read; Why not just track new in each forum since last time "mark all posts read" was hit. I.e. Create a timestamp only when that button is hit, rather than when you touch the page. Even that suggestion would be alittle clunky, but it would be in inbetween option between the fast/low-server-use/crappy version we have now and the slow/bring-the-server-to-its-knees/good version that was tried and abandoned.
