This phpBB seems like a very nice system, but if you're having problems with it, you might want to check out YaBB forums.

Xev Server uses this system, and has a massive user load. Probably not nearly as many as you get here, but I've never seen that board down.

It's free and there are lots of mods for it to upgrade it as you wish. Just wanted to pass the info along...

regarding new forums...

I swear this is not about to turn into a User-Is-Unfriendly stereotype, but phpbb is a perfectly fine system. The famous Keen comic hosting sites (Keenspot.com and Keenspace.com) use phpbb for their board system, and they have an insanely huge and massive load of users. I do not recall hearing of breakdowns at any time after the initial week of installation.

I wish I could help you, Denmother-sama, b/c I can see you've put heart and soul and not just a little blood into this page, and the information here has kept me from pulling my hair out and waisting precious plat on those worthless little books the vendors sell. Unfortunately, all I can do is assure you that phpbb is a good system to use, and to request you to keep at it. Change is not always bad, but here I do not believe it to be necessary.
