  • www.3dvisor.com ad

The flash ad banner for www.3dvisor.com is overlapping the forum search box (drop down) making it impossible for average joes to use the function from a page that has the ad displayed (their ads come up a lot).

I took a look in a couple of different browsers. You're right.

It's not that the ad is evil, but that the placement defined for ads (by us) that is causing this problem.

It's something that the House Ogre is going to have to look into. Thanks for pointing it out.

will try and remeber to poke at this this weekend.

in the meantime, try refreshing the ad away in the short term. May have to change the top ad to text only though the image ads get the site more cash. And that ad location gets the most clicks.

Would it be possible to move the ad to ABOVE the shortcut menu ("User CP", "FAQ", "Members List", etc.)

The problem, as I've seen it, is that the ad is always on top (layer-wise)...so the context menus that appear when you click on the headings are hidden behind the ad. If the ad were above them, it wouldn't be an issue.

Edit: Corrected a few stupid spelling errors...next time, maybe I'll spell out advertisement instead of using "add". :\

the way the board code is, the ad won't fit in the middle like that, it is either back up where it used to be (where you guys clicked on it about 40% less often that where it is now) or there (where you guys click on it more...)

I also need to leave it like this so google can see it. (sent in a request to tech support)

Well after 50 refreshes, I gave up, that's the only add that comes up for me. :P

Another temporary work-around is to use the Forum Search tab. This is at the top right corner of the screen, but only when you are in a specific forum and not in an specific thread.

It also only searches that one forum, but you can usually find any relevant results within one or two searches that way and may avoid the need to scroll through a lot of irrelevant results.

ok. I moved it up. But I fear this could cost us too much money

I think the "problem" is that it's a [Macromedia] Flash ad. All other banners were fine right where they were, or? No reason to forfeit the great revenue-generating position if you can just filter Flash ads to another position or exclude them from the rotation, imo.

image ads gain more revenue... they have no "flash" filter... it is either no images or include images... images includes flash

If the problem is just this one flash ad, why not just block it like the bad ads?
