  • An idea to keep the calm

This *MIGHT* have been mentioned by Sinuuyanea , either in serverwide.eqtraders, or on the boards. Or it may have been something I made up, and just thought I saw her say.

    Regardless.

Would it be possible to create an official "Dead Horse List". A list of threads which have been SO overdone, that they ALWAYS degenrate into pointless bickering and flames?

    Examples being :

Cultural Smithin Gaps, The Etheral Trival adjustment, Possible the May 5th Trivial change, *ANYTHING* trying to figure out "Which tradeskill is hardest", etc..

Im sure that you could think of many more examples. If someone makes a Dead Horse post, it would be locked on sight, and not left to "See if it gets out of hand". Perhaps, along with locking it, a mod could add in a Politely worded "Check the Dead Horse list, HERE" and link to it , or such.

Anyway, I thought this might be a helpful suggestion, so I thought I would post it here. If you want someone to help implement it, enforce it, or just obey it, I am here. If not, then I will go back to my normal habit of ranting about life in the Primal Scream Room.

Actually, I did mention it, and really would like to try it...hopefully, people will read it more than they read the FAQs <img src="http://www.boomspeed.com/sinuuyanea/dcrazz.gif" alt="Dont you people READ?!">

I'd suggest being helpful and writing a FAQ: DEAD HORSE for the FAQ forum explaining the common belief, the reason it's a dead horse, and what it would take to reopen debate for each item you think belongs.

      Example:

      ---------------------------------------------------------
FAQ: DEAD HORSE: Which tradeskill is hardest.

Accepted Answer: Tailoring, because smiths are just whiners.

Reasoning: The smithing trivial changes made smithing very hard, but anyone who wants to smith is a wimp anyway, unless they are making my personal armor, so who can really judge how hard it is.
      --------------------------------------------------------

You may wish to be less biased, but that's up to you.

I'm not against putting something up, as long as folks are aware: a) that folks are STILL unlikely to read it, just like they ignore the other FAQs, etc., and b) that the mere process of gathering information on which items are considered dead horses and why are likely to revive those very same dead horses, and spark a lot of disagreement over what does and does not belong in the list.

That having been said, feel free to start up a listing and discussion in the General forum and we'll see what folks come up with in the next week or so.

            Denmom,

In Sirodie's "dead horse threads" thread, I had finally reached my limit. It appears as though more then a few people insist that this "Dead Horse Thread" idea is the worst thing since Ebay.

So, as I mentioned in that thread, I am withdrawing my support for this idea. I am sorry that I brought it up, and sorry to have been one of the people whos attempt at making the board a better place caused the fit to hit the shan.

As I mentioned in the other thread, this leaves such a bad taste in my mouth, that I fear it will be some time before I attempt to make a suggestion to make the boards a better place. I appriciate your willingness to hear me out, and will go grumble to myself now.
