• Sinuuyanea Nocturne: Threat or Menace?

I have a delimma.

Whenever I have something to say, I say it; I rarely hold back my true feelings on any subject. Be it politics, religion, entertainment, personal life, or EverQuest tradeskills, I'm always forward and blunt. I wont advance far in life, but at least I'll die with a clear conscience, so nyaa

Anyhow, every time I see a topic that contains something I simply cant stand, such as "How can I master xxxx in one day on 100pp" or a_dead_horse00 topic coming up, I attempt to resist the urge to educate the topic instigators/supporters, usualling raising someone's ire. Am I a bad person for this? I would rather be told here and now, instead of one day coming to my favorite message board, and finding myself banned

Am I a bad person? Or, does what I say simply infuriate those that want to be right all the time? Or, should I simple forget the whole thing, and tell you about the Runebranded Girdle I got off a vendor for 2800pp and some change?

PS: Like my avatar? Amazing what you can do with Photoshop, a couple of sprite sheets, and EQ in a window...anyway, sleep time...

You are one of my favorite peopel here, and on the serverwide channel.

Of course, if you are guilty of this, then I am beyond redemption. I find you to be knowledgeable, and with a wry sense of humor that makes me giggle.

If what you are doing is wrong or bad, then I am too guilty of it to see the error in it.

So in conclusion, keep on truckin.

I definitely was not meaning to blame you for that little flareup. You and many other smiths are outspoken, yes, and that's not necessarily a bad thing. My frustration likely comes from the same source as yours does: seeing something wrong, knowing we've tried to get something done about it for ages, trying to bite back commentary, and then watching yet another person come in to revive the dead horse in the smithing forum. Invariably, someone, or more than one someone, will release some of their pent-up frustration, and commentary will turn flammable, again.

It's hard NOT to twitch over some of these topics, which is probably why I don't spend as much time in the smithing forum as I should. (I've been trying to perfect the art of biting my tongue and walking away when I feel a rant of my own coming on - some days I succeed, some days I don't)

I'll have to admit, it is a bit annoying at times to see the same questions posted over and over, and the answers are already found in our smithing guides. But hey, what can you do? I personally feel odd saying, "Here, try this guide. It answers your question. Oh yeah, I wrote it." I notice other people usually end up linking them to the learn a skill page, anyway.

Whenever I see a common question that is answered in our guides, the sticky FAQs, and in other threads where the same question was asked a day ago, I just don't respond. I turn my attention to the threads where people have already attempted to find their own answers and resorted to posting. I think the bottom line is that you can't force someone to read the main site or the stickies on the boards, regrettably.

Why not make part of the registration process contain a check box that says:
I agree to seek the answers to my questions in the FAQs, Sticky Topics, and finally leverage the search feature before I post questions.
You don't get to post unless you check the box. While I'll agree that it will not stop everyone, if it even get's a few people to think before they post, then it will have some benefit.

You might even add a confirmation box that says something like:
You have agreed to seek the answers to your questions in the FAQ, Sticky Topics and to use Search before you post. Are you sure you understand this? (Yes) (No)
just to hammer the point home.

and then one that says:
...and furthermore, I agree that I have read the preceeding terms and requirements to use the FAQ and Search features, and if in my postings, I refuse to use said tools, my fellow board members may flame me at will and hammer my bleeding gnawed carcass back into the fetid bog from whence I sprang.

Box of Tongues

You say, 'Hail Denmother'

Denmother says to you, 'Sohhy Ah cahn't sweek, buh Ah bigh mah hongue so harh Ah bigh igh off. If you hould geh me a [box of hongues] Ah will rewarh you'

You say, 'I will get you a box of tongues'

Denmother says, 'Hank you! Hurry bahck'

You give a box of tongues to Denmother.

Denmother pulls a tongue from a box of tongues and puts it in her mouth.

Denmother says, 'Thank you so much, Cuiva! Here is your reward'

You receive a Custom Title!

You bow before Denmother.

The Denmom made reference to "Biting her tongue"

Cuiva was being a Clever Clara.

Hm. I believe "sycophant" is already taken...

I am rather partial to the link to The Safehouse forms. The Message Board link takes you to a rules page and you have to click "I agree not to be a dink" before you can continue.

Of course, being the shifty bunch of untrustworthy rogues that we are, I think all of us simply link directly to the boards...
